Calls back the lovely April of her prime…

I’ve got my May tag for Tim’s 12 Tags of 2016 to share today and I’ve used Tim’s Blueprint Strip Sewing stamps and a Verve Stamps sentiment, Flowers of Tomorrow, on it.

Mothers’ Day was 8 May here in Australia so I decided to go with that for my theme.  I wasn’t filled with inspiration though until I saw the current challenge at A Vintage Journey was to include fabric and maybe sewing.  Mum making clothes and soft furnishings (not particularly well I might add) is one of my memories growing up so off I went in search of suitably vintagy sewing themed components.

I applied Tim’s tissue tape resist technique to a piece of his new linen fabric and it came up looking lovely.  For the stencilled element of the background I chose words that evoked images of mothers from Tim’s Valentine stencil; “love”, “hugs”, “heart” and “soul”.  With my stencilling I am entering my tag at Country View Challenges.

The clear texture paste I used didn’t really shown up even after I inked the background so to add my metallic element I went back over my stencilling with Tarnished Brass Distress Stain.  Guess this is what they mean when they say there are really no mistakes in creating and to just go with the flow.  I love all the soft tones created on the fabric.  Although looking at it now I think I should have inked in squarish shapes to give the impression of fabric remnants, oh well, next time.

The stamps I used weren’t very large so I had a bit of blank space and found a beautiful sentiment stamp in my collection from Verve Stamps which filled the space and matched my theme perfectly.  After I added in the rolled roses I was still left with a bit of empty space that needed filling so I cut a bit of Ruler Ribbon with an 8 on it and then used a Remnant Rub to add in the word Mayand attached it using a Memo Pin.  I finished off with a typed token attached with a Hex Fastener to the Linen Ribbon I threaded through the tag hole.

Beauty without colour seems somehow to belong to another world

The card I’m sharing today features a commissioned image from Mayzy Art for a crafty friend, Tanja.

Sadly Mayzy closed her digi shop a while back but she has opened up commissions, you can find her on Facebook if you want one.  I think she did an awesome job of Tanja and she was loads of fun to colour up.  Mayzy’s terms allow the commissioner to gift the image to friends, which Tanja kindly did.

I wanted to keep the image the focal point so I’ve gone with a CAS design, which happens to be the theme over at Crafting When We Can.  The current sketch at Retrosketches was perfect for a CAS card.  I added in my stripes using washi tape and my stripes meet the challenge at Crafty Gals’ Corner so I’m also linking up there.

I die cut my image and, for a bit more interest, left a bit of the image out of the die cut.  The sentiment is also a die cut, which I cut twice, once from black cardstock for a shadow and once out of cardstock I covered with my washi tape to tie in with the background.  As you can see from the image, Tanja is a bit of goth girl and loves her skulls, which I’ve picked up in the washi tape I selected.

…will gaze upon the mere bookworms…

I’m sharing a card today made for a friend with Lil’ Bookworm Fairy by Ching-Chou Kuik.

My card follows the current sketch at Cheerful Sketches with lots of lovely layers that I have added to by double matting each of my designer papers and my image.  I swapped out the long rectangular element for some ribbon and lace and did my layout in a lovely palette of pinks, greens and yellows.

Over at the Ching-Chou Kuik Inspiration and Challenge blog the current theme is cats or dogs and the sweet kitty on the delightful Ching-Chou Kuik image I’ve chosen means I will also link my card up there.  I tried to colour the kitty to match the new kitten that has recently joined my friend’s family, a birthday present for her youngest daughter.

Speaking of cats, the current challenge at Crafty Catz is for female projects.  With the pretty lady and elements on this card it could only be for a female so I’m also entering my card in their challenge.

Art is an abstraction

I’m sharing a fun card I made using Tim Holtz’s Bird Crazy and Crazy Things stamps.

My card design follows the current sketch over at CAS Colours & Sketches with my two circular (sort of) elements being my bird and my scribble.  I’ve cut the scribble out of designer paper scraps, which I’ve also used to cut the glasses to fit with the challenge theme at Less is More.

Edna is looking for quilting or paper piecing at the Sisterhood of the Snarky Stampers so I’ve gone to town on the layers on birdie.  For something different I’ve coloured him with watercolour pencils and softened the look by stamping in Ground Espresso rather than a black ink.  I added in the glasses (which sadly didn’t fit on the birdie I chose) as the friend this is going out to wears them.  The somewhat snarky sentiment is a nod to the fact he is a few years older than me although, truth be told, I’ve forgotten what age he actually is.  He is an art teacher though so the artistic theme fits nicely.  I was going to go with an ink splat but have no idea where those dies went I even managed to lose the packet from the dies I used while making up my card, perhaps abstraction isn’t just in my card theme!
