Needs not the holly-berries red

I’m sharing a CAS Christmas card I made today featuring one of the Mixed Media Christmas dies from Tim Holtz.

I used the current colour palette at Christmas Card Throwdown on my card.   I tried a background using Magicals but after tossing a couple decided to switch to one from alcohol inks.  Not sure I have enough contrast between the kraft top layer and the yellow background but they were the challenge colours and I was a bit limited in my actual alcohol inks in yellow.

It seems awfully disloyal to say so but I am not loving the die cut.  I think it needs something more but I don’t know what.  As it is I gave a glow to the die cut with some Distress Ink and added in a few pearls in gold to match the colour palette.

I’ve kept the card deliberately CAS so I could also play along at Less is More.  For their shimmer theme I’ve got Gold Mixative in my alcohol ink background to the die cut and also lovely rich gold embossing powder on the sentiment.

Over at Watercooler Wednesday Gail’s asked for Christmas projects so I am also linking my card up there.

…I understand only because I love

I was commissioned to make a wedding card and chose to use the lovely Wedding Bells image from Tiddly Inks on it.

As the gift to accompany the card is money I created this card with a drawer using one of the fab Silhouette patterns from Nicole’s Stamp Addiction.  To make this just that little bit more special I didn’t cut the circle for a finger pull on the drawer but instead used an eyelet and Swarovski crystal as a handle.

I echoed the outside on the inside using the same die cut, Oval Frames from Wild Rose Studio, and stamp, Elegant Roses by Magnolia.  To reduce the bulk on the inside I die cut a piece of paper instead of using real lace but probably should have also skipped the pearl trim.  The lovely sentiment is from the Just a Note set by Stempelglede, which I’ve stamped and embossed with clear embossing powder.

Over at Southern Girls they want to see some sparkle on your projects.  Apart from my sparkly crystal I’ve used Twinkling H2Os on watercoloured image, added a sparkly gem for the ring on the bride’s finger and also made my roses sparkly.  I used Jennifer McGuire’s technique of randomly inking my roses and leaves, which were embossed with white embossing powder, with an ink blending tool then spritzing with Perfect Pearls Mist.  I then cut each individually and layered onto the card front.  I used the same technique inside but with less foam tape for less bulk.

Paper Craft Crew have a fun Tic Tac Toe board and I’ve used the bottom row on my card.  I’ve made a wedding card with flowers and ribbon.

As my card features both an image from Tiddly Inks and flowers I am also entering it in the current challenge on their blog.

…nothing but an enormous drool gland

I’m sharing a fun card featuring a Stamp On It image called Stork.

No one I know has actually hatched recently, I just made this card so I could play along (again) in Edna’s H is for Hatching, Matching and Dispatching challenge over at the Sisterhood of Snarky Stampers.  I had to do a matching and dispatching card already, which I needed, and couldn’t snark on those so I just had to play again with a hatching card and a snarky one at that.

As often is the case with me the planning took longer than the making but that’s all part of the fun of entering challenges, actually being challenged.  Once I’d decided on my snarky theme I went looking for some images and found this stork that just had the perfect expression.  I’m rather proud of the poop image as I drew that up myself in Photoshop.  I really think snark is often just pointing out the truth to someone, so I’ve gone in and said it here, with babies you get love and happiness but you also get a lot of poopy nappies.

Not content with just doing up the front of the card I’ve added in another image inside, this time Geeky Love New Parents from Make It Crafty.  I mean I couldn’t just correct the sentiment without a bit of snark.

Over at Inky Chicks they are looking for baby cards, hopefully they won’t mind the unconventional nature of mine.  The humorous tone of my card also fit perfectly with the current challenge at Creative Knockouts so I’m entering it there too.

May the season warm their souls

Made a quick Christmas card today in between loads of washing featuring the beautiful Candlelight die from Tattered Lace.

Over at CASology their current prompt is “warm”.  When I saw that prompt I knew I wanted to use a candle on my card as when I think of candles I think warm glow.  The fact we have Christmas in summer here in Australia and electricity has done away with candles in all but blackouts is irrelevant, I still grew up on traditional Christmas images of wintertime and candles on trees.  With that in mind I went with a grey/blue background for my candle to give the impression of a winter’s evening.

My card follows the current sketch at Freshly Made Sketches.  The split in the top layer was the perfect place for my sentiment and I used my new Oxide ink to stamp it, the Iced Spruce going nicely with my Pion cardstock.  C.R.A.F.T. Challenge are looking for Christmas projects so I am also entering my card there.
