It’s not the time that matters, it’s the person

I’ve got a really fun card to share today featuring everyone’s favourite doctor; the image is a freebie fan art from Mayzy Art and is, of course, Dr Who, the David Tennant version.

This card was a commission for a colleague and I was really stuck on what to do for the card, all I had was the image, the recipient is a mad keen Dr Who fan.  But not being one myself all I knew about Dr Who was the Tardis and the funny Dalek things.  I found this great pattern for a  3D Dalek, by CyberDrone on DeviantArt, so I printed out one and made it up but then realised I couldn’t adapt it to get half of it on a card so it wasn’t so bulky.  I also couldn’t work out how to make up the centre step easel card with the centre pane set back that I wanted to use to enable me to have my Dalek in 3D.  My next thought was to make a 3D Tardis as there’s a pattern for that too but realised that wasn’t going to help me any more than my 3D Dalek as it still wasn’t a card.

Then inspiration hit, the Dalek would make the perfect “parcel” substitute on a parcel card.  Fortunately the awesomely talented Jenny Dix has a tut up for making parcel cards, go check out her stunning creations on her blog.  So I made one up and made up a new baby 3D Dalek too.  I found a picture of the Tardis online and printed that off and voilà, I had a card base.  By the time I was doing the embellies it was getting quite late so I didn’t have time to Google to see what should go for a Dr Who themed card.  I went with the clock face as I know the Dr is a time traveller, I couldn’t help but add my favourite embellies of flowers, and then realised I should have something to reference the milestone birthday so hunted out the Prima typewriter keys and the Tim Holtz Muse Token.

I love a Tic Tac Toe challenge and Crafts 4 Eternity currently has one running.  I’ve used a diagonal for my card, I’ve got something old (the lovely Core’dinations clock paper), the colour blue, and something new (the Prima roses arrived last week in my Scraps of Darkness kit).

This really is a special card type so I’m entering it at the current Hanna and Friends’ challenge.  Over at Just Us Girls they’re looking for cards that are anything but 4¼x5½, so I’m entering my card there too as this one is 3½x7¼, well, not counting the Tardis that is!

I took it in to my colleague today just in time for his daughter’s birthday today.  Sure hope she liked it, despite not being a Dr Who fan it was a really fun card to make.
