…for she has held a star

Sharing a card I made for a colleague who is expecting, featuring the lovely Uptown Girl Brynn has a Baby Shower from Stamping Bella.

The mother-to-be is not really your traditional kind of girl so I decided to go really non-traditional with this card and started with the colour palette from Hand Stamped Sentiments.  I didn’t have any designer paper that matched the colours so I made my own with the matching Stampin’ Up! inks and some Tim Holtz background stamps.  I stamped twice, one with the ink colour and once in Embossing Ink to add a layer of clear embossing powder.  Love the texture this gives to the card, even if it doesn’t show up well in a photo.  Stamped in the matching sentiment to the image and also added clear embossing powder over.  Love the pop of yellow against the darker background colours, picked this up in her pretty dress too and the few sequins I added for embellies.  I also embossed the image, adding the clear embossing powder makes the black lines really dark and shiny, looks great in real life and made the thin bits a bit stronger to survive the fussy cutting that was just a tad bit painful to do!

I’ve used just the sketch half of the Fusion challenge for the layout of my card.  It was a fairly simple sketch but allowed me to pile on my layers and therefore also enter the current challenge at Sweet Stampers.  I’ve double matted each of the backgrounds I made, in the matching solid cardstock colour from Stampin’ Up! and a Bazzill Smoothie black layer.  Used the solid cardstocks as a final mat with another layer of Bazzill black over my white card base for a really solid card made a bit larger than I usually do at 6x8 to enable a few people to sign it.

The mother-to-be hasn’t said whether she’s expecting a girl or a boy so I did the gift bags in both blue and pink, the only traditional baby colours on the card.  And while this is a really non-traditional baby shower card I really like how it came together and the mother-to-be loved it, which is what really matters in the end.
