Wolves may lurk in every guise!

There’s a fabulous new release of Teen Scene images ready for Halloween, Spooky Teens, from Simply B Stamps and I’ve got Big Bad Wolf Chris on my card.

To make up my card I’ve followed the current sketch over at Cheerful Sketches.  I’m loving all the layers, which allowed me to use a range of papers and patterns to jazz up my card without the need for embellishments.  Which was just perfect as I’m planning this for one of my male friends hence the no embellies or frills and the good, solid manly image.  As this card is for a male I’m also entering it in the current challenge at Chocolate, Coffee & Cards.

It’s the right season and this is the right image for a Halloween card and I do love to make Halloween cards.  And what better colour to go with this image than orange.  As I have both Halloween and orange I’ve got both themes for Simply Create Too’s current challenge so I’m also linking up my card over there.

Now it’s also Day8 over at SBS’s 13 Days of Halloween where the theme is embossing, either wet or dry.  I’ve used both on my card, creating a cool bit of background paper using an embossing folder and then adding some colour with ink and embossing powder.  I’ve also used embossing powder to highlight some of the lettering on another piece of paper.  I took the sentiment that comes with Big Bad Wolf Chris and printed it several times on a piece of coloured paper and added in some fangs.  With my trusty VersaMarker I then went and traced over the bits I wanted to emboss, sprinkled on some embossing powder, blitzed it with my heat gun and voilà, the perfect sentiment and background paper combination.

Walk like an Egyptian

This is my second week as a guest DT on the Outlawz Sketch challenge where the awesome sponsor is Tamara, aka The Stamping Chef, and I’ve used her gorgeous Nile Goddess on my card.

Here’s the great sketch for this week, which I flipped and resized to a 6x6 square for my card.

Now of course I had to go Egyptian themed and it was amazing what my stash offered up, nothing less than a piece of paper that looks like papyrus, don’t ask me when I got it or where but sometimes I really love my stash!  I printed a couple of lines of hieroglyphics for two of the vertical line elements and raided my stash again for the gold braid for the ribbon element.  In keeping with my Egyptian theme I swapped out the bow for the an ankh that I cut from a metal sheet and then embossed.

You can’t do a card featuring a pharaoh without a whole lot of bling and I’ve got loads on my card.  I wish I’d had another of the triangle Swarovski crystals to put on the bottom of my braid but sadly I didn’t and I couldn’t find anything similar (my stash didn’t come good this time) so I just left the bottom blank.  I used the border part of the Cuttlebug embossing folder as the pattern was better sized but couldn’t get the top of the ankh embossed without flattening the sides again so I added in a bit more bling with a brad to cover it.  I picked my die cut as it was shaped a bit like a beetle and I was going for a scarab shape.  To help with that effect I added clear embossing powder to make it super shiny.

With all my bling and the sparkle on my die cut I am entering this in the current challenge at Southern Girls.  As I’ve used a Stamping Chef image I am also linking this up at their current anything goes challenge.

 

Oh and has my title got you singing yet?  Surely you remember The Bangles’ hit Walk Like an Egyptian, I know it was back in 1985, yes, really, I know, feeling old yet?! but it was a catchy tune.  This lovely image has the right pose and everything so I am entering this in Crafty Catz’s current inspired by a song challenge.

…most softly lulling to my soul

This is my second and sadly last post as a guest DT for Through the Purple Haze where this week’s challenge is a sketch one sponsored by Aurora Wings and Delicious Doodles.  Here is the awesome sketch designed by one of the talented DT members, Lucy.

And I got to play with the gorgeous White Poppy image from Aurora Wings, although as you see I decided to colour her red.

She was certainly a challenge to colour, especially as she is printed fairly small, just under 3.5” and it isn’t actually clear where she finishes.  The background is a bit dodgy, I wanted it black but didn’t want to use my Copics to colour it and my Distress Markers weren’t going to work either as my image is printed on an inkjet so I’d get runs when I hit the outline so I had to go with chalks.  I trimmed down the applicator ball but it was still impossible to get into all the small places without going over the image a bit and I got some contamination in the red frame with the black from the background.  It is what it is now though as no way was I going in and recolouring it.  As I have several methods of making my mark (chalk, Copics and Distress Ink) I am linking this up at Addicted to Stamps’ current challenge.

With such an elegant image and poppies being red and black I decided to go with that colour scheme for my card.  I’ve never used my Marianne Design Petra’s Oval dies and I’m glad I broke them out for this as the one I used is just beautiful and is the perfect frame for the image.  The current challenge at Crafty Bloggers’ Network is for either a die cut or embossing, I’ve got both covered so am entering this over there.

I knew I wanted to swap the bow element for a poppy but I didn’t have one in my enormous (we’re talking a couple of draws full) stash of flowers but that’s OK, Mr Google came to the rescue.  Or should I say Martha Stewart did, as it was a pattern from her that I used to make my poppy.  I had to hunt out the one and only sheet of Mulberry Paper I own for this but I eventually found the little sneak hiding among some patterned papers.  Some Lindy’s Stamp Gang Starbursts in the appropriate colours and I had a pretty decent poppy.

The background embossing is also from a folder I’ve not used before, the lovely and appropriate Poppy from Anna Griffin.  I used a piece of red paper but then highlighted the flowers with some Distress Ink, I think I should have done the centres with some wet embossing but I only thought of that after I stuck the sheet down.  No matter, one form is enough to qualify this in the current 4 Crafty Chicks’ challenge.

Hopefully my little card has inspired you to come play along at Through the Purple Haze.  I do love a sketch challenge, they give you structure to work with but still allow for amazing creativity, don’t believe me, just go look at all the different ways the DT have interpreted Lucy’s sketch!
