Du er mig saa smuk ved snee-lysets

Today is my last showpiece from the beautiful Fairy Tales & Myths’ collection at Simply B Stamps and features the lovely Snow Queen.

I decided to make a matchbox on which to place my Snow Queen, mostly because there’s a matchbox challenge over at the Flying Unicorn Forum and the image is so beautiful it deserved something more than a mere card.  Of course this is a Steampunk Snow Queen so my snowflakes include some tiny watch parts that I gessoed to look snowy.

I also applied a little gesso to the pearls and the snowflake I cut using a Spellbinders’ die.  The beautiful lace from Live & Love Crafts suited the image and feel I was going for perfectly.  With both my lace and pearls I am entering this in the current challenge at Time 4 Scrap.

This pretty little box needed some real bling to finish so my handle is made from a Swarovski crystal that I adhered to a Prima Junkyard Finding Facucet Handle, some more Steampunky metal goodness.  I love my metal embellies and metal also happens to be the current challenge at Top Tip Tuesday so I’m linking this up over there too.

Warað Hine Wræclast

It’s challenge time again at Simply Challenged Challenges and this time the theme is layers.  My card features Jude Spook from the awesome A Roberts Halloween collection at Simply B Stamps, a gorgeous collection of Betty’s family all dressed up for Halloween as drawn by the talented Abigail Larson.

For my layers I decided to try distressing, I have a distressing tool somewhere packed away so I had to stick with a file (the round one I use to sharpen my scissors) and an emery board.  The ‘dirty’ look to the Black Widow paper collection from We R Memory Keepers worked well for the feel I was going for with my card.  I’ve also got layers on my flower, which actually started out life looking quite pretty but which I also distressed.  I couldn’t get the file to do much on the thick mulberry paper so I snipped the edges of the petals with scissors then attacked them with the file before spritzing with Smooch and adding Distress Ink to the edges.

To make up my card I followed the current sketch at Feeling Sketchy.  With the oranges and browns I’m entering it in the current My Sheri Crafts challenge.  As Jude looks like he could have wandered out of your nightmare I’m also entering my card at the Time 4 Scrap challenge.

And, in case you’re wondering, the title of my post is a quote from the Anglo-Saxon poem, The Wanderer, with his pumpkin light and long cloak Jude reminded me of a wanderer out alone in the dark so the quote seemed quite fitting.
