Today’s card features
the new 1950’s Fashion from Saturated Canary, which I just knew I had to make
for a friend’s birthday when I saw it.
I’ve actually
managed to get my card done in time to join in Krista’s colouring contest. That gorgeous full skirt was fun to colour
and I think the pink looks lovely against the darker skin tone I’ve used. I was going for an Indian skin tone as my
friend is of Indian heritage.
Ever happen to
you that you just feel impelled to go with a certain style? Well it did for me, no matter what I tried to
plan all I could see was a vintage style, luckily this lush image really suited
that style and this card is going to a very feminine friend.
I followed the
sketch over at Vintage Challenge to make up my card and raided my scrap bag
for my papers. I’m really chuffed to
have actually used only scraps on the outside of this card, something I was
basically forced to do as I have piled a whole lot of stuff in front of my
paper holders! The sketch featured lots
of layers and I added in a few more, one extra designer paper layer just
because I found a piece big enough in my scraps and loads of lovely
embellies. So I am also entering my card
in the current challenge over at Hiding in my Craft Room.
To help me
decorate my card I’ve followed the mood board at We Love Vintage. I raided my embellie stores with the mood board in
hand and found the cute teapot, armchair and suitcase charms which I vintaged
up with some modelling paste. I picked
up the oval frame from one image and finally broke out my Prima Shabby Chic
Treasures making a picture frame using a Prima stamp. I stamped the image quite lightly, maybe too
lightly as when I added crackle paint it almost faded away but then it adds to the
vintage feel of an old faded painting. I
used a Julie Nutting Mini Doll wood embellishment for the doll; I didn’t have
any tiny 3D doll charms and another Prima resin for the mannequin. I added a dress to the mannequin out of
ribbon and lace, colouring the lace with Various Inks. I also picked up the
colours, the soft pinks and white, from the images and the flowers and
lace. To finish I covered off the
outdoor images on the inside with some more lovely Maja Design papers.
I wish the Prima
Rose Doily die I used was a bit larger so more would have shown through. I picked out the leaves and the roses with
texture paste and added embossing powder over the top and I think it turned out
lovely, but unfortunately most of it is completely covered.
My pretty flowers
are all from I Am Roses, they all started out white and I coloured them by
brushing them with Tattered Rose Distress Ink, which really matched well with
the rose trim I used. As I have the
requisite number of I Am Roses flowers I am also linking up my card in their
current challenge. I also coloured the pearl stamens I used with Tattered Rose, need to think of a better way of doing that as they are plastic and the ink did not take very well.
