My card today
features a beautiful image from Digistamp Atelier called Little Geisha with Butterfly.
I chose the image
as this card is for a friend who has recently fallen in love with Japan, making
two trips there in recent times. I’ve coloured
up the image in traditional geisha make-up with a white face and red eyeliner,
brows and lips.
The layout
follows the current sketch at Sketch Saturday.
To stretch my creativity further when I went looking for inspiration at
challenge blog sites I decided I’d do the sketch as one layer in keeping with
the current theme at My Time to Craft.
All of my elements have been made on the base of X-Press It paper onto
which I first printed my image. I then
cut the fan die cut (in place of the bow) and embossed around my image with a
Spellbinders Nestabilities circle. I
used the same die to cut a mask and also cut some more mask material to form my
‘ribbon’. I then added in some
stencilling using Tim’s Embossed Paste technique.
My colour scheme
and choice of stencil were based on inspiration from the challenge at Creative Card Crew of lavender and lace. I added
the die cut fan, which I inked and foiled, to the inside of the card to show
through the negative on the card front.
As you can’t see much of the stencil on the front I decided to carry it
through to the inside without the embossing. Not so sure about how easy the message
will be to read but it does make for a pretty inside.
For added
stability I mounted my single layer onto a card base. I am really pleased with how this all came
together and am enjoying not needing embellies to add dimension and interest to my
cards.
