I’m so excited to be sharing a card today I made as guest DT over at Sisterhood of the Snarky Stampers for their X
is for Xtreme challenge.
And here’s my card.
Now I have been
wanting a Queen of Snark badge for ever so I was so excited to have finally
snared one even if my win was in a Steven Bradbury* finish. For this challenge Edna has gone off the edge
and she is asking you to do the same. Well,
not literally of course, but she wants you to stamp off the edge of your project.
I have to admit I
didn’t have any stamps that we screaming ‘snark’ to me that would also work in
an off the edge kind of way and I really wanted to be snarky for my guest DT
turn. In the end I finally got inspired
by some other challenges into making a somewhat snarky Valentine card.
The colour scheme
comes from If You Give a Craft a Cookie, where the inspiration cookies are
heart shaped in black and white polka dots with a pop of red and green from
some roses. So I started by stamping my
hearts off the edge in black ink and one in red with green accents.
To add some
shimmer and shine, the theme over at Make My Monday, I then stamped them
again in Embossing Ink and covered in clear embossing powder. I did it this way to avoid stray bits of black,
red and green embossing powder lingering on my otherwise white background. I then printed my slightly snarky Valentine
poem (the sonnet from 10 things I hate about you, a film I loved when it came
out, 18 years ago, boy do I feel old now!) on an old overhead transparency and
again covered in clear embossing powder to set.
I figured you’d
never be able to read the poem if I did the background in black so instead I did
red and green alcohol ink. It’s barely
perceptible but I also stamped another heart on the background using the alcohol
resist technique. I made up some heart
confetti using a punch and threw in some white and black sequins. In a nod to the pop of red and green from the
inspiration cookie I also added one red and one green heart.
As my sentiment
is the main focus of my card and it is about love (yes, a bit snarky but still
at heart about love, no pun intended!) I am also linking this up at Aud Sentiments for their current challenge.
Hopefully I’ve
inspired you to get your snark on and your stamps off the edge of your project. If I have, do come join Edna and the sisters
for their challenge, do it for the snark in you and do it for the chance at the
Queen of Snark tiara.

* Steven Bradbury
won gold at the 2002 Winter Olympic Games in the men's short track 1,000 metres
event (that’s a skating race in case you didn’t know) basically by being the
last man standing after a pile up of the rest of the racers who were all ahead
of him. His victory has gone into Aussie
folk lore (we’re a proud sporting nation and will take any victory at a Winter
Games we can) where we appreciate the hard work that got him to the finals and
the irony of his gold medal performance ultimately being down to luck. What it really proves, is you have to be in
it to win it because you never know when everyone else is going to fall over
or, in the case of my victory, just not turn up!
This a really pretty card. Thank you for joining us at Make My Monday. Sian.
