Sharing a birthday
card featuring an image from an artist formerly on DeviantArt, Shinigami,
called Elegant Elf.
I’ve coloured my
elf in watercolours keeping to the palette at Color Throwdown. These colours flow through to my cardstock
and embellies on my card. I probably
took a bit of poetic licence to the kraft in the elf’s skin and hair but hopefully
that’s OK, as I loved the palette and thought it suited the image perfectly. While the image was picked as it actually
looks remarkably like the recipient of the card, well minus the pointy ear!
For the layout of
my card I’ve used the current sketch at CAS(E) this Sketch. To keep the card uncluttered I used all plain
cardstocks for my mats and only added in some pattern with the accent
rectangle. I created this piece with
alcohol ink on Yupo paper, using the technique showcased by Mindy Eggen on
Jennifer McGuire’s blog. If you’re
looking for tips, tricks, techniques and loads of inspiration go check out
Jennifer’s blog, she is incredibly generous in sharing so much information there.
I added in the strip
behind the sentiment using a piece of lace so I could also play along at Cardz 4 Galz in their current haberdashery themed challenge. I coloured it with Tim Holtz Distress Stain to
match the same colour green I used on the elf’s dress. The chippie sentiment was then coloured using
the same gold paint as her dress accents.
I am still mourning the loss of Make it Crafty and Zoe’s best chippies
ever in the history of craft supplies but have decided I can’t just horde them
all, as much as I want to.

Great job on the challenges, Emily! She really is an elegant elf! I love the texture from the lace ribbon and the veneer sentiment! Hugs, Darnell CTD GD
