I’ve been in a shabby chic mood of late and have another project, a card this time, in that style featuring the gorgeous new Mother’s Day Betty image from Simply B Stamps.

To make up my card I’ve played along with my favourite sketch challenge over at Outlawz, this week’s sketch was just perfect for a shabby chic style card.  I had to swap out the rectangles for ovals though as I didn’t have anything in my stash (dies or chippies) that were rectangles of the right dimensions.  I tried to keep my flowers in a sort of oval shape but they ended up a bit bigger than the bottom oval, again I was limited by what was in my stash.

To help me select my shabbilicous elements I used the tic tac toe board at Sugar Creek Hollow.  I actually couldn’t decide which row or column to use so I used two (lace, ribbon, pearls and embossing, ribbon, distressing), I also have some flowers in there too for good measure.

Hiding in My Craft Room has a Mother’s Day challenge on at the moment so I am also entering my card over there.

When every leaf is a flower

I have had the pleasure this month of being a guest DT member for Simply Challenged Challenges and this is my second and last project for them.  It features Snowball Fight Miller from Simply B Stamps Teen Scene Fall and Winter collection.

 

It hopefully showcases the current Simply Challenged Challenges' theme of Thanksgiving.  We don’t have an equivalent holiday here in Australia so I did some googling and saw lots of Autumn colours and pumpkins so that’s what I’ve gone with.  But where are Miller’s snowballs you ask?  Under all those leaves and pumpkins of course!

I couldn’t think of a way of making a snowball image look Thanksgivingy so I cropped the pumpkin out of Pumpkin Patch Betty, also from the same collection from Simply B Stamps, and some leaves from Oscar Pile of Leaves from the Jude and the Rockers Fall collection and did some decoupage.  And boy did I hate myself for that when I realised just how blunt my detail scissors are but in the end I think the effect was worth it.

Underneath it all is the unaltered Snowball Fight Miller image, I coloured all the snow areas in a pale orange, in case my leaves didn’t cover everything.  Miller was coloured in grey and I printed a second image in which I coloured Miller and cut him out so he sits above the pile of leaves.  If you look carefully you can see the top of the snowball Miller is holding peaking out from under the pumpkin I stuck over the top of it!

To make up my card I followed the current sketch at Retrosketches.  I also finally got to use my Spellbinders Maple Leaves die on this; the sentiment is printed and comes with the entire Teen Scene Fall and Winter collection bundle.  I love the embossed edge of Nesties too so I used them to cut the rectangles that were part of the sketch and I sat Miller on.  With all those die cuts I’m entering my card in the current Hiding in my Craft Room challenge.

Being Autumn there are a few challenges with related themes going on and I am linking up my card at the Autumn / Fall colours challenge at Stampin’ for the Weekend, as I have both a stamp and loads of Autumn colours featured.  I’m also entering it at the Fall challenge at Digi Haven as I have used a digi stamp along with my Autumn colours.  Finally, hopefully it is right for a Thanksgiving project as I am linking it up at the current challenge at Brown Sugar.

Metal Boy

Today’s project is another tag, this time featuring the super cute Power Suit Oscar from the Jude and the Rockers’ Little Hero collection from Simply B Stamps.

I’ve used a Ranger #5 tag as my base and the layout is the current sketch at Sketch Saturday.  I did move the sentiment down into the bottom corner in order to make room for Oscar and added in some Halloween metal and epoxy gem thingies from CTMH instead of stars.  I tried to place the big one so it looked a bit like that’s what Oscar is holding up with his Iron Man power.

The current challenge at Hiding in My Craft Room is to use your scraps, being so small a tag I was able to raid my scrap pile for the papers.  This is a good thing as I tend to just add to the pile never take from it!  There was a strip of Frightful paper (the orange) just the right width for the tag so I just cut the right length off it.  The blue background paper was also a scrap, I’ve still got half a sheet of it in the scrap pile so plenty more starry opportunities with that one!

The current challenge theme at My Sheri Crafts is “night time”, I always think super heroes come out at night and with my dark blue and starry background I think this counts as a night time scene.  Even the orange paper (when you raid your scrap bin you’ve got to go with the flow) has speckles on it that are reminiscent of stars so I’m working with it being like a belt of stars like the Milky Way or such like and that Jude is flying.  Does Iron Man fly?  I haven’t seen the movie but I figure he has to or he isn’t really a super hero!
