Calls back the lovely April of her prime…

I’ve got my May tag for Tim’s 12 Tags of 2016 to share today and I’ve used Tim’s Blueprint Strip Sewing stamps and a Verve Stamps sentiment, Flowers of Tomorrow, on it.

Mothers’ Day was 8 May here in Australia so I decided to go with that for my theme.  I wasn’t filled with inspiration though until I saw the current challenge at A Vintage Journey was to include fabric and maybe sewing.  Mum making clothes and soft furnishings (not particularly well I might add) is one of my memories growing up so off I went in search of suitably vintagy sewing themed components.

I applied Tim’s tissue tape resist technique to a piece of his new linen fabric and it came up looking lovely.  For the stencilled element of the background I chose words that evoked images of mothers from Tim’s Valentine stencil; “love”, “hugs”, “heart” and “soul”.  With my stencilling I am entering my tag at Country View Challenges.

The clear texture paste I used didn’t really shown up even after I inked the background so to add my metallic element I went back over my stencilling with Tarnished Brass Distress Stain.  Guess this is what they mean when they say there are really no mistakes in creating and to just go with the flow.  I love all the soft tones created on the fabric.  Although looking at it now I think I should have inked in squarish shapes to give the impression of fabric remnants, oh well, next time.

The stamps I used weren’t very large so I had a bit of blank space and found a beautiful sentiment stamp in my collection from Verve Stamps which filled the space and matched my theme perfectly.  After I added in the rolled roses I was still left with a bit of empty space that needed filling so I cut a bit of Ruler Ribbon with an 8 on it and then used a Remnant Rub to add in the word Mayand attached it using a Memo Pin.  I finished off with a typed token attached with a Hex Fastener to the Linen Ribbon I threaded through the tag hole.
