…a part of the soul that is visible to others

Sharing a rather elegant card featuring stamps and dies from Concord & 9th, their So Happy For You stamp set and Floral Hoop die set.

I’ve followed the current sketch at Freshly Made Sketches for my layout, just adding in the hoop of flowers to give it a focal point.  I went with the black, white and copper colour scheme to play at CAS on Friday.  For interest, and so I could also enter my card at Back to Basics, I did the black background in alcohol inks.

I also alcohol inked some more Yupo in copper to die cut the thin foliage die from the Floral Hoop set.  I then stamped some of the flowers and heat embossed them before die cutting with the matching dies.  For the leaves I did some alcohol lift-inking off the left over from the black background, which gave me another different black.

For my sentiment I added embossing powder to some of my fav chippies from Make it Crafty.  A strip of the copper inked Yupo provided the last thin rectangular element of the sketch and finished off the card nicely.

…dragons on the wind of morning

Sharing a quick card I made last night featuring the super cute image, Tori the Dragon Up, by Conie Fong.

To put my card together I’ve followed the current sketch at CAS(E) this Sketch.  The balloons in the image were perfectly placed to use as the three flower elements after flipping the sketch on its side. Wasn’t till I started putting the card together that I realised I should have flipped the image too so the balloons were on the right side!  I was going to partial die cut my image but couldn’t get all the bits to fit into the rectangle die so I fussy cut the image and die cut the rectangle from a piece of G45 paper featuring the words from ‘Twinkle, twinkle, little star’.

To finish off I added in a chippie from Uniquely Creative for the sentiment, which has a lovely glittery sparkle thanks to a coat of embossing powder from Bellbird Paperarts.  Now I have to admit, at the late hour I was making this last night my limited ability to do anything with colours was even more constrained.  So I googled the image and found a wonderful colouring of another of Conie’s dragons from a talented crafted called Nancy, who very kindly gave her colour palette on her blog post.  Love the colour combo she used and the stipple technique in colouring the image so I gladly CASed it on mine.  I’ve given the colours below but do stop by Nancy’s blog and check out all her wonderful work.

There’s a fun challenge I’ve not played at before called Double Trouble and this round they’re asking you to use at least three colours, got more than that so check, and stamped or digital image, got one of them too so that’s a double tick.  They also add in options, like this time where they ask for a punny sentiment.  I couldn’t manage that, well, I suppose I could have but that would have taken more thought than I could muster late last night!  Then they also offer a double dare, this time it’s to also enter the challenge at Brown Sugar following their theme of a creature.  Well, that was too easy given I’ve used my dragon image so I’ve managed two out of three of the challenge themes, pretty happy about that for a first-time entry.

…an active alchemy

Sharing a birthday card featuring a lovely digi from Make it Crafty called Chelsea Hugging Legs, gotta love us Aussies for our (un)imaginative names!

To create my card, I’ve followed the sketch over at Creative Friday, I just enlarged the square element to fit my digi.  Used a chippie from Uniquely Creative I picked up at the recent Paperific Show to add my sentiment.

Unfortunately, in this set a couple of words were missing the dots for their i and ‘wish’ was one of them.  Luckily, I was planning on playing along at CAS-ual Fridays for their current sequin challenge so I just used one for the dot.  Added a trio of larger ones as the only other embellie on this card to keep the focus on the pretty image.

Over at Simply Create Too they’re looking for stitching and I’ve gone for some of the faux kind.  I cut my image using a stitched square die from Simon Says Stamp! and then cut it again from my top cardstock and used the negative space.  This is an awesome set of dies as they have stitching on both sides of the cut.  To add a bit of dimension I popped the image up on some foam tape.  Love how a bit of stitching can add interest to an otherwise CAS design.
