In every generation there is a Chosen One

Sharing a card featuring a fab image from the sadly closed Saturated Canary called Honor.

For my layout I’ve followed the current sketch at Freshly Made Sketches.  I swapped out the leaf element for my image and printed the long thin rectangle straight to my top piece of cardstock.  I printed a sentiment that’s a running joke with the recipient and our fellow ‘KFC Club’ members.  Because I wanted to get that in, I essentially shifted the sentiment to being part of the rectangle design element and skipped out on a larger sentiment, even though this is actually a birthday card.

I die cut a circle around my image rather than fussy cutting it so that I could play along at Addicted to CAS.  But I also left the image to hang off the edge of the die cut to fit the current theme at My Time To Craft.

The card was starting to do the rounds of the club members at work today (yes, some of us are still keeping things going even amid all this chaos) and has gone down a treat.  Although the recipient isn’t known for her archery skills, she is known for her very pink skirts and lovely black hair that’s always beautifully styled.

...nerdiness the reverse

Sharing a card featuring the now retired Anya Nerds Out from The Greeting Farm.

This card is going to one of my staff for her birthday and the stamp was bought especially for it.  As soon as I saw it, I thought of my staff member, Anya looks just like her, well, OK, no, she doesn’t wear leg warmers but the rest is spot on!

The layout of my card follows the sketch over at TGIF.  I did shift the placement of the sentiment off to the left though, just so I didn’t cover up Anya’s feet as it looked a bit weird when I paced the sentiment box over them.  The sentiment is from the Uniquely Creative All Occasions set.  I also thought the sentiments on the Kaisercraft paper really worked for my staff member, she reads widely and likes to take inspiration from what she reads.

The sketch was perfect for adding a border or two so I could also play along at Creative Knockouts.  I’ve created mine on the cardstock I stamped my image on using all three of the dies in the Mama Elephant Fine Trimmings set.

Over at CraftyFriends they want to see projects for ladies or girls, which my card certainly is.  So, I am also linking it up there.

…take the suggestions out of the box before you try reading them

Sharing a comic inspired card featuring several images from the sadly now closed Kenny K, Big Surprise, Smart Aleck, Total Drama and What If.

I created my own comic strip with the images, blowing up the Smart Alec one to be the biggest and adding in my own sentiment.  I named my comic as a play on the obscure one of ‘The Fantastic Foster Fenwick’ swapping out Foster’s name with the birthday boy’s name (I’ve obscured the last name on the image to protect the guilty!).  The sentiment is also a play on something from work as the recipient is a work colleague who will not only get the reference but hopefully enjoy the laugh and the nod to him thinking I’m some kind of internet stalker that I worked out his age a few years back after he refused to say anything more than “I’m closer to 40 than 35”.

I took the inspiration for my colour palette from the photo at Time Out.  The sky on two panels matches the blue wall paint, with yellow, pink, blue and green on the characters’ clothes and purple for one of their hair colours to match the various frames and flowers in the image.  Yellow got used a fair bit in my colouring to reference the main piece in the picture, the brightly coloured yellow table.

I’m also playing along with the Tic Tac Toe board at Paper Craft Crew.  I’ve gone for the left-hand column, I’ve got two shades of blue (the suit jacket and the background blues), it’s masculine (well hope it looks that way as it’s going out to a bloke!) and I’ve done simple stamping.  Literally just placed my images on the one page, added in my computer-generated sentiment, printed and coloured.  Matted in black on the card and that was it for me to call it done.

As I’ve got not one but four stamps, digi but still stamps, on my card I am also linking up at Krafty Chicks where the theme every first week of the month is stamping.
