…no horizon is so far that you cannot get above it or beyond it

Dusting off my blog to share a fun card made for a colleague’s retirement featuring the cool Cockatoo Rules from The Paper Shelter.

I’ve used the current sketch, well OK it’s a retro one from a while back but still awesome second time round, at CAS(E) this Sketch for the layout of my card.  I did add in a number of layers for added interest and I’ve offset my cockatoo, in lieu of the plane, to make it look like he’s driving off the page.  Love the Make it Crafty chippies and I’ve used a word one for part of my sentiment and some flourishes for the jetstream behind the cockie.

The other part of my sentiment is from an ancient rub on set, so ancient the letters were cracking up as I rubbed them on but I think it suits the card.  It gives the impression of well worn leather, like the cockie’s jacket perhaps, or maybe cracks in the road.  And why a cockie on a retirement card?  Well my colleague keeps them and this one just looked perfect for someone riding off into the sunset ready for retirement!

Over at Moving Along With the Times they are looking for male themed projects.  This card is heading out to a male colleague, hence the CAS style and going with the biker cockie rather than a more realistic one.  Although I’ve realised I’ve made him look way more biker angry than he should be, as I did this no lines I covered the beak lines in my black watercolour and didn’t cross-reference the digi until it was too late to realise I’d placed the mouth line in the wrong place.  He looks more determined than happy like you’d expect of someone retiring!

Now while this cockie has chosen to fly over the road on a pretty fancy bit of kit he has a pair of wings and would normally be seen up in the sky.  So I figure he still counts for the What’s that up in the sky??? theme at The Sisterhood of Crafters where I’m also linking up my card, just under the wire for their challenge too.

Haven’t had a chance to do much crafting of late so had a bit of fun getting inky with this card.  Hoping to do a bit more this month than last, shhh, there’s still Christmas 2017 sitting on my craft desk that needs finishing and posting!
