But he who dares not grasp the thorn…

I’m sharing a card I made to celebrate a milestone birthday featuring the elegant Single Rose Bride image from Sami Stamps and sentiment from the Altenew Beautiful Day set.

I’ve followed the current sketch at CAS(E) this Sketch for my layout and used a bit of red cardstock to accent my otherwise monochromatic colour scheme.  I also coloured up my image monochromatically with just a pop of colour on the single rose.  I love the elegance of this image and how she can be used for non-wedding occasions also.  It’s hard to see on the photo but the 40s and rose pattern is actually foiled so it looks shiny in real life rather than black.

I chose to use the repeated rose motif so I could enter my card over at the Alphabet Challenge.  I created the background by cropping the rose from the image and alternating that with a 40.  Maybe should have done all roses and just one 40 in the middle not to belabour the point but it is a milestone and one the recipient isn’t dreading reaching.

It is, of course, also cause for celebration.  Well, actually, any birthday is as it’s always a gift to reach another year and have the health to look forward to yet another.  So I am also entering my card in the current celebrate challenge at AAA Cards.

But he that dares not grasp the thorn...

May is a busy month for birthdays and my first card of the month is for a female friend, so I’ve used the lovely Single Rose Bride from Sami Stamps.

This image practically screams elegant to me but in a lovely simple way so I had to go CAS with the card so off I went looking for a suitably CAS sketch to use.  Instead I found the colour inspiration over at Addicted to CAS and realised I didn’t need a sketch, just those colours and my image, nothing more, and I love the result.

I’ve embossed the image rather than colouring it to go with my CAS but elegant feel.  Over at As You Like It they are asking which style of embossing is your favourite.  I love wet embossing, I love the raised texture it creates and I love the different colours, particularly the metallic ones.  Funny that wet embossing is my favourite when I have no more than 20 pots of embossing powders but I must own at least ten times as many embossing folders, so goes the contradictory nature of a crafter!

As my card features a female image and is for a female friend I am also entering it in the current challenge over at Come and Get It.
