SBS Ribbon and Trim Swap Hop

One of the awesome things about the Simply B Stamps Fan Page are the swaps that happen on a fairly regular basis.  The swaps have different themes and the amazing Betty always provides an image to use on the card to accompany the swap.  This swap was a ribbon and trim themed one and my partner was Stacey – check out all the fabulous things Stacey sent me.

And if that wasn’t enough, Stacey also sent this box full of even more gorgeous trims from her personal collection, would love to see that collection, it must be awesome!

Finally, just have a look at the beautiful card Stacey made for me featuring the swap image, Ribbon Rita.

You should have arrived here from the lovely Jackie’s blog, if not then head on over there.  If you did, then its off to gorgeous Marie’s blog to check out her stash.

And if you missed anyone on the way, here’s the complete hop list:

Love My Bump

Today I made my first ever pregnancy card, featuring the sweet Pregnancy Glow image from Redonkadoodles.

This is for a colleague who is off on maternity leave next week.  I don’t know the gender of her baby so I mixed pinks and blues on the card.  I also threw in some orange as the mum-to-be is an SES volunteer and they wear bright orange overalls.

I toyed with making an easel card but I’ve already made her one for her engagement and she recently also got a 6x6 card for her birthday from me so I needed a different shape.  The layout is from the current challenge at Tuesday Morning Sketches, I just swapped out the circle shape for a heart to echo the heart on the image.

A Fish and a Bird in Love

There’s a new range of Steampunk images being released today at Simply B Stamps from the pencil of Abigail Larson; the gorgeous Zodiacs.  And from that range, meet the beautiful Pisces.

This is my first ever mixed media project, I’ve seen others where everything was Gessoed and painted in a rainbow of colours but that isn’t really my style.

But, as this is a release day project I’ve also done another to go into my keepsake box.

Skeleton Key to My Heart

I have something a bit different to show today using one of the Lady Killers from Simply B Stamps; Skeleton Key Samantha.  I knew I wanted to do something special with her and when I saw the beautiful wall hanging by Shona from Shona’s Wonderful Mess I knew I wanted to create something similar.  Go check out her awesome work on her blog.  And here is my take on her wall hanging.

And a close up of the lovely Samantha.

I couldn’t find a chipboard frame large enough for my image, which I had already coloured, so instead I decided to go with a shadow box.  I decided I wanted to brick the background, Donna from Popsicle Toes, one of the amazing DT at Simply Steampunk Challenges, used the Tim Holtz Texture Fades Bricked embossing folder on her version of Skeleton Key Samantha and it looked great.  Only problem was I don’t own that folder.  No problem, my local craft shop, The Crafter’s Haven, run a royalty club program that lets you borrow tools and books and they had one.  I had to run it through my Grand Calibur four times as it is smaller than my 6x6 background piece but it is such a lovely rough brickwork pattern you can’t tell, even up close.

While I was borrowing the folder and picking out flowers for this I also found the awesome bunch of keys charm that was just perfect to hang off Samantha’s hand and saved me trying to cut around the little key and thin line of the string in the drawing, I was dreading that, especially as my new Cameo is still sitting under my desk at work!  So loads of flowers and some Twiddleybitz flourishes and some more charms and my wall hanging was finished, I am really pleased with how it turned out.

Birthday Suited

This very blue card is heading off to a colleague for his birthday, hence all the manly blues and no embellies.  It features 1920’s Kody from Some Odd Girl.

I’ve cropped Kody to fit the sketch, which is the July sketch challenge one from the Some Odd Girl blog.  I keep going to Kody when I need a stylish male card, he is just perfectly dapper.  The sketch was a good fit too with lots of clean lines to it and I finally got to use some of my Washi tape too!

This card features four layers (I love adding layers of paper, makes cards nice and heavy and substantial!) and a 1920’s gentleman so I’m entering it in the Crafts-Too Challenge You era with layers twist challenge.  And as it is most definitely a birthday card (I’m not much for sentiments on the front of my cards!) I’m also entering it at Word Play Saturday where the theme is birthdays.
