My heart seemed full as it could hold

I’ve got a little banner to share today featuring the gorgeous A Heart for You Rio from Simply B Stamps.

And here’s a close-up of the beautiful image.

It’s a Valentine banner, but you guessed that right?  I’ve used dies from the December Club La-La Land kit as well as the idea for the banner from the included project.  I love the dies in these kits they are just awesome.

Given the theme of my banner I am entering it in the current challenge over at Creative Corner.  It is going to form part of the decorations of an office for Valentine’s Day, I’m turning the office into the “tunnel of love” in revenge for the occupant (a male manager at work) covering my desk with glitter balls for Christmas.  As a crafter I’d never inflict glitter on someone’s workspace, I’m still trying to get the glitter off so he must pay and what better way than having to work in an office decorated like the tunnel of love?!

My project is clearly not a card so I’m also entering it in current challenge at C.R.A.F.T. challenges.  Love to Scrap is running a challenge asking you to use at least one item starting with an initial of their name.  I have “L” covered with the word love, “T” for twine, “S” for sentiment and “B” for blossoms.  I almost had a clean sweep but I just couldn’t think of anything starting with “C” to add to my banner.

Under the daisy's mocking spell

It’s Wednesday Sketch challenge time over at the Outlawz and I have a card featuring another image from this month’s awesome sponsor, Oak Pond Creations, on my card, this is Georgia’s Daisies.

And the sketch this week.

I’ve flipped the sketch and added in some lace for my zig-zag elements as my ability to cut paper to that shape is rather limited.  I needed something to help me pull the whole card together, I’m not used to non-people images so I checked out the various challenges around to see what inspiration I could find.  Sweet Stampin’ had a beautiful photo up and it was just what I needed to direct my search for the perfect paper and embellies.  I’ve taken the soft lavender colours from the photo as my inspiration, including Smooching my butterfly embellies to soften up their colour.

I’ve also played along with the bingo card at Fussy and Fancy, as I had lace and a flower image I also added in some Fran-tage around my image to get my three in a row.  To help add interest to the card I’ve also made it a gate fold with the image the ‘latch’ or overlapping part.  As it a gate fold I’m also entering my card in the current challenge at Vandicrafts’ Artistry.

Hope to see you playing along over at the Outlawz for this week’s sketch challenge.

...who enchant all who come near them

There’s a brand new Simply B StampsFan Page challenge with a new set of gorgeous mermaid images, my first card features the beautiful Sheri Mermaid.

The theme for this image is to use twine so I’ve used some baker’s twine to make my own fishing net.  Not sure how good I’d be at fishing with it but once you get in the rhythm it is actually quite quick and fun to make.

I thought I’d stick with making my own embellies as I wanted some shabby, sea foamy type flowers and I didn’t have any in my stash so I got some cheese cloth and my Tim Holtz Tattered Florals dies and set to work.  The cheese cloth didn’t stand up all that well to being spritzed after I die cut, maybe I should have done that step first but as I wanted shabby flowers the fact you can’t really see the Tattered Floral shape properly doesn’t matter so much.  I used some berries for the stamens and tied the whole lot together with some more twine.  I like how they turned out, I think they suit my shabby chic seaside theme well.  Rather than add leaves I’ve made up some crinkle ribbon in a seaweedy green, I love colouring my own seam binding ribbon as you can get the exact colour you need and it seems to work with both Distress Inks and my Various Inks.  As I have both handmade flowers and hand dyed ribbon on this I am entering it in the current challenge at Our Creative Corner.

I tried to get the background to also have a fishing net look with my new Kite stencil but I suck with stencils, worse even than stamping!  I think I need some way to hold the stencil down flat, it probably didn’t help that I distressed my edges first.  I used modeling paste and spritzed with a Lindy’s Stamp Gang Flat Fabio and although you can’t see the fish net pattern it does look water like and suits my theme.

I managed to print the sentiment that comes with the image perfectly on a journaling card from the Prima Seashore collection and then distressed it and rolled up the corner to make it look like an old parchment.  I also fussy cut the anchor printed on it to tie in with the anchor charm in the opposite corner.  It’s hard to see (OK, pretty much impossible to see) in the photo but I’ve used Twinkling H2O’s on Mermaid Sheri’s tale, I think I have to get more of them, it looks lovely in real life.

With all my shabby chic elements this fits right in with the Live & Love Crafts’ style and their current challenge is for ‘by the sea’ projects.  Lots of blues, water and sea bits and pieces on my card so I am linking it up over there.  I am also entering my card in the cool water themed challenge over at Frilly and Funkie.

There are three other beauties in this new release, hop on over to the SBS blog to check them out and all the details of the challenges.  The rest of the SBS DT have done awesome things with these images too so please go check their blogs out, you can find links at the bottom of the post or from the SBS blog.  Oh and be sure to come back soon as I will have another two mermaids swimming onto my blog in a just a few minutes.
