...the two natures that contended in the field of my consciousness...

I’m sharing a card today made for a milestone birthday for a colleague at work.

To make up the “belly band” that holds this card contained when it’s not on display I’ve followed the current sketch at Techno Stamper’s.  I did make the circle element smaller but only because I didn’t have a clock in the appropriate size.  I wanted to go with a time theme as the milestone was 50 and the colours of the paper and design worked really well for the look and feel I was going for.

On the actual card itself I’ve taken in the recipient’s favourite pastime of running by featuring Track Alex from Simply B Stamps, which sadly is a retired image.  I’ve also added in my all-time favourite male image of 1920s Kody from Some Odd Girl, also sadly retired.  (You so gotta get those digis when you see them as they are here one day gone the next!)   I put these images on the card as I am always jokingly telling him he looks like a bum in his running attire but very distinguished in his suit for work.

Papertake Weekly’s current challenge is to use three or more shapes on your card; I have a circle (clock face), rectangles (the card base, the shape behind the images and on the belly band) and squares (the patterned paper top and bottom row of the card).  I’m also entering it in the current challenge over at Cardz 4 Guyz where it’s the easy peasy anything goes theme.

Sukhāsana

A friend at work is having a birthday and when I saw the lovely Yoga Pose Juno from Paola’s Papers I instantly thought of her so it seemed fitting to make a card for her featuring this image.

I wanted it to look like Juno was almost floating in the air so I’ve placed her on some clear plastic and framed that with a Nestie.  To make up my card I’ve followed the current sketch over at Sweet Sketch Wednesday 2 twice as I’ve made an easel card.  On the top part of my card I omitted the rectangular element, basically to give me the clear background and the floating effect.  On the bottom part of the card I flipped the sketch so the rectangular and oval elements were in a landscape rather than portrait orientation.  On both the top and bottom I added a second embellie to give some balance and mostly to fill the extra space I had on the top from moving the oval element high enough to create the floating effect.

I was umming and ahhing about the colours to do this, I hadn’t coloured up Juno’s outfit before I started the card base (something quite unusual for me) but luckily Deep Ocean is having a colour challenge and it is brown and blue (hopefully obvious from my card).  These seemed the perfect colours for the serene feel I was going for so I raided my paper stash and found some lovely subtly patterned blues and browns.

I did want to make this just that little bit more special so I figured some bling to help fill the space on the top half was called for.  Fortunately I had some Chocolate Jewels in my stash that fit perfectly.  With my bit of bling I am also entering this in the current challenge at Crafting Musketeers.

Happy Birthday Sharman

I have a card today for the very lovely Sharman whose birthday it is and my card is featuring her commissioned image from Simply B Stamps.

I decided to do something extra special for Sharman who is just the loveliest person so have done a tepee card in a shabby chic style.  I’ve got lots of lovely flowers and die cuts and pearls and some distressing happening to go into my card.  As this is an extra special card I am entering it in the current The ABC Challenge.

Here's the left hand side.

And the right.

Fussy and Fancy are running a two of a kind challenge at the moment and I have lots of pairs on this.  I have two flourish die cuts, two pairs of paper roses, two pearl flourishes, two die cut labels and two rub-on sentiments.

I’ve never made a tepee card before but it was very easy to do and it is a nice change from a regular card.  Being a different card form I am also entering my card in Bastel-traum’s current challenge.

…thou hast brought me many flowers…

Wednesday means only one thing, a new sketch over at the Outlawz and my card today features the lovely Iris image from this month’s fabby sponsor, Oak Pond Creations.

And here’s this week’s sketch.

I’ve fallen out of the habit of playing along at Through the Purple Haze so before I sat down to make my card I headed over there to check out their current challenge.  It is to use an inspirational image, quite a different image it is too!  Between the feathers and the colours I kept thinking shabby chic, a style that really suited this sketch too.  I picked up the purples, pinks and blues from the inspiration image in my papers and embellies and the slight green tinges in my scrap of ribbon.

The sketch was a great one for layering up my papers and I do love to use various patterned papers on my cards, love the extra weight and thickness they give to the card.  I’ve got three on this one so I’m also entering my card in the current challenge over at Craft Your Passion.

Corrosive Challenges are running a theme of “B” Unique looking for three things starting with the letter ‘b’; I’ve got some lovely blooms (both embellies and the image), some sparkly bling and a beautiful butterfly.  So I’m entering my card in the challenge.

This really is an awesome sketch to let your creativity shine through and I loved playing with it.  So hope you will come join us over at the Outlawz with your take on the sketch.
