Forgetting May, deeming October sweet?

Abigail Larson’s stunning rendition of the Zodiacs are available as digis from Simply B Stamps and my card today features the beautiful Libra.

I’ve made this card for a friend’s birthday, isn’t October a grand month for a birthday?

Distressing is something I’ve only just got into and it just seems to be the perfect accompaniment to one of Abigail’s images.  I wasn’t quite brave enough to properly distress Libra though, I think I would have cried if I had to recolour her so I just stuck to adding some distress ink around her.  I’ve also finally gotten into my stash of Twiddleybitz chipboard, I have a whole boxful from my LSS just crying out to be used.

The layout of my card is a slightly reworked version of the current sketch at Unscripted Sketches.  I took the two small round elements from the side and stuck them on top as flowers, I always like to cover the ends of ribbon and moving them here worked better with my image being so big and being placed on the right.  I’m also entering this card at the current challenges at Chocolate, Coffee & Cards, where flowers are the theme, and Crafty Ribbons where it’s anything goes with ribbon.

Won't You Share My Umbrella

Today I’m sharing another one of the beautiful Steampunk Zodiac images from Simply B Stamps, this one is Aquarius.

To make up my card I followed a sketch at Crafting Life’s Pieces.  I made the background paper by taking some quotes from my favourite book, Persuasion, and using the Jane Austen font to print them in a soft copper colour on a piece of aged looking paper.

I also made the umbrella using the Tim Holtz Mini Bird and Cage die; I got the idea from my awesome teamie, Jenny (go check out her fabby umbrella and blog).  I used some mesh ribbon and fabric for the ‘skin’, made the spine a bit fancy with some pearls and the handle is a piece of Mizuhiki (Japanese paper cord).

Archer Take Aim

My card today features another beautiful image from the Simply B Stamps Steampunk Zodiac range, this one is Sagittarius.

One of the colours a horoscope site said was lucky for Sagittarians was lilac so I’ve gone with that as the theme of my card.  I followed a sketch at the Sketchy Challenges to make up my card, I wasn’t sure of the element in the corner was part of the sketch or not but thought I’d use it anyway.  I love metal embellies and the plaque I found in my stash had a pattern under the word that reminded me of an arrow head so I added it to my card.  It’s a bit hard to tell in the picture but the plaque is double 3D zotted off the page to make it really pop while the oval element is single 3D zotted.

I changed up the sketch a bit by using trims instead of other pieces of paper so they are a bit narrower than those elements on the sketch but I am trying to use up my stash of trims!  The whole card has a soft feminine feel that I really like especially when contrasted to the picture of an archer.
