Clouds in my coffee

There’s a fun new image at Simply B Stamps, Coffee Lover Bre, who comes in two versions, I’ve got the hot coffee version on my card today.

Given the coffee flavour to this image I had to go with coffee colours on my card and have pretty much done a monochromatic card giving my E family of Copics a good work out.  Hopefully all the different patterns and shapes stop this from being a boring brown card!

My card follows the current sketch at Outlawz, which had just the right elements to go with the recipe challenge over at Crafter’s Café.  I do have a couple of extra die cuts as I felt I needed something under Bre’s feet so added in the sentiment, my square dies were a bit smaller than the square elements on the sketch.  And, shhh, we won’t mention the extra pearl, it is just an itty bitty one for her earring so I’m sure it doesn’t count.

I tried a couple of different ribbons with images printed on them (cupcakes and dandelions) but finally settled on plain brown as a contrast to the patterned papers.  It would have been good to have had the same shade of brown as my cardstock for the largest die cut square but sometimes you just have to roll with what you’ve got and admit your vast stash doesn’t include everything.  With my ribbon element I am also linking this up at Craft Ribbons’ current challenge.

Macabre Reflections

It’s the final week of Spooktober and I have a number of special projects to share (provided I get them all finished!) and two for today.  The first is my entry to Day 9 of the 13 Days of Halloween at Simply B Stamps where the theme is Splattered and who better to splatter than Corinne?

This is a little compact I made, it was very silver so I added some patina to the rim, the background is black, Corinne’s favourite colour.  I needed something to add interest to the background and the splatter theme was just perfect, I went with red for blood, as red is also Corinne’s favourite colour and she is a bit bloodthirsty!  Well, OK, not really, but she likes to pretend!  The image is a cropped version of the image Betty drew for Corinne for her birthday last year.  You can’t really see the smoke she is blowing in the photo and the Diamond Glaze I used to seal it made her lips run :-(

My second project is also an off-the-page and features the lovely Pipper, from the Burtonweenies collection at Simply B Stamps.

This choker turned out almost exactly as I imagined, there are supposed to be some red sugar skulls in the open zip part but I have turned my craft room upside down and can’t find them!  Most of the pieces I got from my local fabric and craft stores.  I’ve gone with a red and black theme again and Pipper as she is Corinne’s favourite Simply B Stamps’ image, I’ve just cropped her to fit the vintage frame.

There’s a Halloween challenge over at Craft Mojo, where I am linking up my choker.  And, as this is definitely not a card and features ribbon, I ‘m also entering it in the current challenge at Crafty Ribbons.

Oh, and Corinne, no need to call dibs on these, they are headed your way just as soon as I can make it to the post office, just my way of saying…

Forgetting May, deeming October sweet?

Abigail Larson’s stunning rendition of the Zodiacs are available as digis from Simply B Stamps and my card today features the beautiful Libra.

I’ve made this card for a friend’s birthday, isn’t October a grand month for a birthday?

Distressing is something I’ve only just got into and it just seems to be the perfect accompaniment to one of Abigail’s images.  I wasn’t quite brave enough to properly distress Libra though, I think I would have cried if I had to recolour her so I just stuck to adding some distress ink around her.  I’ve also finally gotten into my stash of Twiddleybitz chipboard, I have a whole boxful from my LSS just crying out to be used.

The layout of my card is a slightly reworked version of the current sketch at Unscripted Sketches.  I took the two small round elements from the side and stuck them on top as flowers, I always like to cover the ends of ribbon and moving them here worked better with my image being so big and being placed on the right.  I’m also entering this card at the current challenges at Chocolate, Coffee & Cards, where flowers are the theme, and Crafty Ribbons where it’s anything goes with ribbon.

You Impudent Hussy!

So maybe in this outfit Eliza doesn’t look like an impudent hussy but it was in this outfit she uttered the quote on the card I’ve made.  It features My Fair Lady from Sassy Studio Designs.

I’m really proud of the colouring on this image, black and white isn’t easy and this was also my first attempt at doing lace with Copics.  I followed a tutorial by Jennifer Hancock on the Copic website.  I did the lace as I looked up a photo of Audrey in My Fair Lady and her dress was covered in lace, she also had flowers on her lace cap so I drew those in too before adding some white ‘lace’ with a pen.

To make up my card I followed a sketch at Friday Sketch Challenge although I did twist it a bit to suit my image which I’d coloured before thinking about the layout of the card and was a smidge too tall for the sketch to work without alteration.  I picked the image out to play at Through the Purple Haze in their ticket or tags challenge as I thought tickets suited a day at the races (I’m just under the wire with this but still in with a chance for the draw in December for completing every weekly challenge!).  I have a stack of trims so I’m really trying to use them more although it’s a bit hard to see the ribbon and lace hiding behind all my other stuff but it is there, promise!  So that covers me for the Crafty Ribbons Challenge and my black and white colour scheme works for the 4 Crafty Chicks challenge.

This card is for a friend’s birthday and I couldn’t help but use the ‘bloomin’ arse’ quote from Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady, I did change it up a bit, I substituted my friend’s name for ‘Dover’ in the original.  Think it still counts for the Country View Crafts’ Challenge that called for a quote.
