Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life

My card today features an awesome image from The Stamping Chef called The Artist.

Now Tamara, the Stamping Chef herself, is running a competition to be the ‘colouring face’ of the Stamping Chef, details can be found over in the shop where you buy the image.  I couldn’t resist entering as it would be such an honour to have my colouring featured on her shop.  Also the image was clearly going to be a challenge with all that curly hair so I really wanted an excuse to colour it up.

Of course, once it was coloured I had to put The Artist on a card.  I followed the current sketch at Sweet Sketch Wednesday 2 to make up my card and selected papers that made me think of painting and paints.  I don’t know how long I’ve had the Echo Park or Little Yellow Bicyle pads I used, they’ve been in my stash for a good while so I’m entering my card in Crafty Creations’ current challenge to use something old from your stash.

As always my card is a 6x6 square, so I am also entering it in the current challenge at The Crafter’s Café.  I made the circle elements I mounted the iamnge on using my trusty Nesties, layering a plain circle on a blossom pattern.  I also made my own embellies with some pretty butterflies from a Marianne Design Creatables die.  With my die cuts I am entering this in the current PDE Linky Party challenge.  To finish off my butterflies I added in some adhesive pearls and mounted them on some lace tape, another thing I’ve had in my stash for ever, and pearl trim so I am also linking my card up at Divas by Design.

Seeing I have used a Stamping Chef image on my card I am also entering it in their current challenge, where its always anything goes.

...his own life-blood drawn away into the woman he loves

There’s an awesome new challenge over at Simply Steampunk Challenges with the theme of “Rip n Tear make it look beat up” and I’ve used the fantastic Dracula Summoned on my card.

The image is one of the amazing drawings of Abigail Larson you can get as a digi exclusively from Simply B Stamps and just fab to practice your pleats and folds on!  I had to do those curtains in dramatic red to symbolise the blood and the love of Dracula because, despite the gore, there is a love story in the legend.

To make up my card I’ve followed the current sketch over at Kraftyhands and I’ve literally torn all the bits of paper.  The only time I got my cutter out was on the base of the card.  The sketch was great for a vintage and shabby look like I wanted for this gorgeous Gothic image.

I love to layer things up and the sketch allowed me to do just that, I even layered up my trims, I used lace for the scalloped element but added in some crochet trim hearts for added interest instead of the plain strip.  With all my layers I’m entering this in the current challenge over at The Crafter’s Café.

To fit with the love theme I made a stick pin with some beads I had in my stash including a lovely red velvet heart so I’m also entering this in 4 Crafty Chicks’ current pin challenge.  I added in some Steampunk metal elements with the wings a double motif, for Dracula himself and also for an angel, for it was the fact his beloved was locked out of heaven that drove the Count to become the vampire, hence I used two sets of the wings.  That and I just love the Prima Junkyard Findings!  The Tim Holtz Muse Token was perfect too, with its sentiment of ‘Forevermore’.

Sure hope you’ll come join in the fun over at the Simply Steampunk Challenges’ blog, all you need is a Steampunk image and to follow the theme by tearing or ripping up your paper.  You’ll find loads more inspiration from the talented DT gals of ‘Team B’, who are all sharing their creations this month, on the blog too.

The air itself is filled with monsters

It’s challenge time over at Simply Steampunk Challenges and our theme this month is piecing together (e.g. quilting or stitches) and the whole DT is playing with this gorgeous image, Bride of Frankenstein.

You’ve got to go and check out all the different ways the talented teamies have used this image.

To make up my card I’ve followed the sketch at Sketch N Stash, I did rotate the image element though to fit with the orientation of mine and also swapped the sentiment for some Steampunky metallic goodness and roses.  I’ve had the Prima Pipes in my stash for a long time and have used most of them on this project.  I thought they fitted well with the image, I imagine Frankenstein’s laboratory to have lots of exposed pipes.  I also imagine he’d have strapped his creations down as he brought them to life with an electric shock hence the leather strap and the lovely Idea-ology buckle.

With all the metal elements on this I am also entering it in the current challenge over at SanDee&amelie’s.  I was also going to have a piece of fake metal with a chippie frame I faux metalled up but it ended up way too big and hid all the stitching I did.  I wanted to keep the stitching in view as it ties in with the image again and all the stitches on her.

The Crafter’s Café has Steampunk for their current theme so I am also linking up my card over there.

Now hopefully I’ve inspired you to create your own Steampunk project.  No?  Then go take a look at the SSC teamies and their gorgeous creations, they are sure to get your creative juices flowing.  We’d sure love to see you play along with our challenge, just remember you must use either Bride of Frankenstein or Frankenstein’s Bride Portrait.

The greatest show on earth!

This is my last showpiece for the super cute new Jude at the Circus collection from Simply B Stamps and what better way to finish than with a card featuring Jude himself, this is Ring Master Jude.

I’ve made up my card for my nephew for his birthday so I’ve gone with more boyish colours (I hope they appeal to a boy!) and followed the fun sketch this week at Outlawz.  I raided my stash of Freckled Fawn embellies for the camera and banner chippie, which I think suit the image really well.  I don’t think I’ve used the banner die before but the sketch called for a banner so this die was perfect.

Cute Card Thursday has a challenge going with wild world as the theme, not much more wild than a lion, even a circus one can turn on its tamer at any moment, so I’m entering my card there.  I’m also linking it up at the Crafter’s Café who have a super easy challenge to make a square card, mine is a 6x6 inch one.
