Usted estarĂ¡ conmigo para siempre

I have another Day of the Dead card, this one featuring Lenore Forevermore from Simply B Stamps.

This one was more difficult as she didn’t have her face decorated so I had to add that in myself, which I did after I coloured her up so the pressure was really on.  I think it turned out OK but next time I think I will make a template for myself and definitely add that detail in first.

With such a beautiful image I wanted a fairly CAS card and the Week 3 sketch at Viva La Verve was just right although not sure I’ve altered it too much with the added element of the image.  I liked the scattered circle elements as they gave me the perfect placement for my sugar skull stickers, they sort of pick up the grey from the inspiration image.  I didn’t have any other in my stash so had to go with these.  I also used the pink from the photo on the image but teamed it with some lime green and a little yellow as the Day of the Dead images all seem to be multi-coloured.

Although my card is somewhat CAS it still has lots of layers, which I love.  I even layered lace on ribbon for the curved element.  With all my layers I am entering my card in the current challenge at Craft Hoarders’ Anonymous.

As You Like It is currently asking which style you prefer cute or elegant.  I have to say I think my preference is elegant although I do tend to try all styles and people have said my style is rather grungy.  I don’t think there’s anything grungy about this card, the image was beautifully elegant and I’ve followed that through with my CAS layout and embellies so for me, definitely, it is elegant.  Why elegant?  Because I love beautiful embellies, dies like this elegant frame, images of women with gorgeous hair like Lenore Forevermore and because my all time favourite movie star is the queen of elegance herself, Audrey Hepburn.

To hear the sea-maid’s music?

My card today features a cute mermaid image from Lacy Sunshine Stamps, this is Waverly Sun Kissed Mermaid.

I’ve played along with my favourite sketch challenge over at Outlawz with this card although I have taken some creative liberties with the two rectangular elements.  I’ve swapped one out for some lovely die cut waves, I thought these suited and it meant I didn’t hide the fabulous and very appropriate lighthouse image on the designer paper I used.  For the other I’ve used some trim I found in my bottomless pit of ribbons and laces that reminded me of seaweed and sea foam.  This formed the perfect backdrop for my embellies.  It was also in just the right colour and somehow my stash of paper came good too with the right colour for the waves and the base card, love it when my stash actually holds what I need!

What could be more perfect for embellies for a card featuring a mermaid but pearls and seashells?  I’ve also added a metal anchor charm as I needed something to hang as a counterpoint to the seashells and it suited my theme too.  With my metal embellie I am entering this over at Inky Chicks for their current challenge.

As my card features a Lacy Sunshine image and I have two die cuts, the frame around Waverly and my waves, I’m also entering this in the current challenge at Lacy Sunshine.

...and danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings

I’ve got a shape card to share today featuring the fun Trapeze Ariel from the Jude at the Circus collection from Simply B Stamps.

There’s so much movement to this image that I just didn’t want to stick Ariel on a boring square card so I went with a round one, following the current sketch at Die Cuttin’ Diva’s.  I think I’m pretty safe meeting their die cut requirement, pretty much every element of my card was die cut.

I wanted to give the impression of Ariel just hanging in the air so I fussy cut her and attached her trapeze to a piece of twine that looked like rope.  I also printed the great sentiment that comes with the image on a piece of paper with a grid pattern that looks to me like a net.

The current challenge at 4 Crafty Chicks calls for a shaped card so I am entering my card over there.  I’ve also got an image of a girl on my card so I’m linking this up at the current DL.ART Thankful Thursday challenge too.

The flower a tethered butterfly

My project today is a tag, well, actually a tag pocket with a little card inside, a thank you to a colleague who helped me out recently at work.  The front of the tag features a chippie of a Julie Nutting doll called Holly.

To decorate the chippie I started with Gesso and then sprayed with Smooch Glitz, I smoothed the spray with a paint brush to try and give the impression of a flat fabric like satin.  I then used a stencil and some mica to add the butterfly detail to the skirt.  To finish the doll I got out my Copics and just coloured as I would on paper, which seemed to work.

I made the flower embellies too following a tut on the Flying Unicorn Forum where they’ve got a challenge going to make these flowers and feature them on your project.  They are really simple to make but I think they are quite pretty although a tip or two, a heavy designer paper is not suited to what is essentially origami and a ¾” petal is very fiddly to fold.  The front of the tag follows the current sketch at the Outlaw’s sketch challenge, I actually remembered to get a picture of my creation so I can enter this week’s challenge, not like last week when I popped the card in the post before getting a picture!  I did add the bow element to the top and skipped the oval element, I thought Holly was a good replacement being quite tall and thin although not very rounded.

I added a pocket to the back of the tag, inspired by a post on the Flying Unicorn blog by Alda.  I sprayed it with the same Smooch as Holly’s dress and added some more butterflies to match.  I also added some designer paper to the back of the tag to match the front.  I didn’t have a smaller version of the ribbon on the front so I stamped the pattern on some plain canvas ribbon using a bindi stamp.

The little tag that goes inside was cut from a couple of Nesties.  I’ve layered the front of it to add interest and picked up the pearls from the centre of the flower in the corner embellie.  I echoed this on the back of the tag where I also used a resin flower in a matching colour as another of the folded flowers would have been too much.  I’ve left an enormous tail to the tag out of baker’s twine so I can tie this package style around the gift.

Crafty Catz has a thank you theme on their current challenge so I am also entering my tag in there as it is definitely about thanking someone.
