Happy Birthday Lisa!

Today is a very special day, it’s the birthday of one of my awesome teamies, Lisa, and I’ve made a calendar and notepad holder for her featuring her special birthday image from Betty.

And a shot of the card closed.

These little calendars were featured on the Noor Design blog with a tut by Clarissa and I knew I wanted to make one as soon as I saw them but had to wait for something special.  And what could be more special than the birthday of a wonderful person?

I haven’t Steampunked in a while and it was fun to get out my metal embellies.  There aren’t too many layers on this project, on account of how it has to fold down, but there are still lots of elements.  As You Like It are asking what your favourite style is, so I guess from this you’d say my favourite style is fussy and I guess it is.  Don’t get me wrong, I do like a CAS card and when the image calls for it I’ll go CAS but I think I like my layers and my embellies too much to ever go completely CAS.

To soften up my metal embellies I added in some small flowers, another favourite of mine.  With my flowers I’m entering this over at the current challenge at Through the Purple Haze.  Flowers are also the theme at Creative Knockouts so I’m also entering my card there.

Usted estará conmigo para siempre

I have another Day of the Dead card, this one featuring Lenore Forevermore from Simply B Stamps.

This one was more difficult as she didn’t have her face decorated so I had to add that in myself, which I did after I coloured her up so the pressure was really on.  I think it turned out OK but next time I think I will make a template for myself and definitely add that detail in first.

With such a beautiful image I wanted a fairly CAS card and the Week 3 sketch at Viva La Verve was just right although not sure I’ve altered it too much with the added element of the image.  I liked the scattered circle elements as they gave me the perfect placement for my sugar skull stickers, they sort of pick up the grey from the inspiration image.  I didn’t have any other in my stash so had to go with these.  I also used the pink from the photo on the image but teamed it with some lime green and a little yellow as the Day of the Dead images all seem to be multi-coloured.

Although my card is somewhat CAS it still has lots of layers, which I love.  I even layered lace on ribbon for the curved element.  With all my layers I am entering my card in the current challenge at Craft Hoarders’ Anonymous.

As You Like It is currently asking which style you prefer cute or elegant.  I have to say I think my preference is elegant although I do tend to try all styles and people have said my style is rather grungy.  I don’t think there’s anything grungy about this card, the image was beautifully elegant and I’ve followed that through with my CAS layout and embellies so for me, definitely, it is elegant.  Why elegant?  Because I love beautiful embellies, dies like this elegant frame, images of women with gorgeous hair like Lenore Forevermore and because my all time favourite movie star is the queen of elegance herself, Audrey Hepburn.

I told you she was tricky

This is the third card I’ve made using the new Betty Boo image from Simply B Stamps, this time I’ve not used any of the word art sentiments.

To make up this card I’ve followed the sketch over at Crafts 4 Eternity.  The image is super small again but this time the background paper didn’t have too much glitter on it so I was able to print the image straight on to it so I could still have the lovely curly elements that I had to cut off when fussy cutting.

I really ran out of time doing up this projects as I had a lot on this weekend so to save time I coloured all the images the same colours.  But as I did colour the image using my Copics I am entering this in the current Addicted to Stamps challenge.

I’m also entering this in the current As You Like It as it features an image of a person, which is really the type of images I prefer colouring.  Why?  Basically because I really don’t do fur and other animal skins very well, I can get a dappled effect for a leathering skinned animal but my furry animals never look very good.  I also am more of a people person than an animal person in life too, maybe why I haven’t worked that hard at improving my animal colouring skills.

I’ve got one last project featuring this new release so come back in a few minutes to check it out.  Meanwhile you can see my cards featuring this image and the word art that comes with at this post and also this post.  You can also check out the release over at the SBS blog and see what the awesome DT have done with BettyBoo and the other new word art release, Zombie Bride Betty, by following the links to their blogs at the bottom of this post.

A stately raven of the saintly days of yore…

I’ve got a card to share today featuring the simply gorgeous Dark Cinderella, an image drawn by Abigail Larson and available from Simply B Stamps.

I really wanted to do something special with Dark Cinderella so I went with an easel card.  I echoed the lacing of her bodice on the card although in the end you can’t see much of the lacing I added thanks to my embellies.  And being a Steampunk image, I just had to use some metal cogs for the embellies along with some flowers, love my flowers!  So I’m entering this in the current challenges at Creative Moments (Steampunk) and Crafter’s CafĂ© (flowers).

I’m also linking this up at As You Like It’s challenge of your favourite colouring medium.  You only have to come by my blog twice to know I colour everything with Copics, I love them and can’t wait to finally get all the colours.  Not sure if Fran-tage counts as a colouring medium, if it does then it is my favourite for doing backgrounds and there’s plenty of it on this card.

Heres a close up of the beautiful image.
