We live in deeds, not years...

I’m sharing a card today I made for a male friend for his birthday.

The main element of my card is a tag I made following the tut from Tim Holtz for January’s Twelve Tags of 2014.  I picked words that describe my friend and also went to the same detail Tim did on the Type Charm only I used my friend’s birth date.  And, yes, I am late with this card but as he is still away on holidays he will never know!

I’ve numbers all over my project without actually adding my friend’s age as every year he says the same thing when I wish him happy birthday, which is to state his age in a rather disbelieving voice.  Hence going with the clock/time theme also.  With all my numbers I am entering this in the current challenge at Cut It Up as I also have the requisite die cut.

Over at Crafty Creations they are looking for four of things, I have four word flags and four metal gear embellies, I also have four timepieces (three stencilled ones and the die cut one but it’s impossible to see the stencilled ones under all the layers).  I’m also entering my card at Crafty Gals’ Corner where their theme is to use a die cut.

...only when the clock stops does time come to life

I have a CAS card to share today made for a male colleague whose birthday is coming up this week.

Wanting something simple to suit a male I went hunting for ideas on challenge blogs and the sketch that went up today at Jo’s Scrap Shack sparked my mojo.  I’ve been wanting to do up a pocket watch like Tim Holtz did on a tag last year (check out the deets here) and that fitted well with the design of the sketch and gave me my focal point.

I love cupcakes and when I saw the lovely brown colour palette over at Cupcake Inspirations I had my colour scheme sorted and I immediately thought of my Riddersholm Design papers, I knew I’d find something among their collections to suit.  Oh, and now I really want a cupcake, sigh…

My final inspiration was from Left of Center where their theme is texture.  What better way to add in the stripe elements than with a Tim Holtz stencil and some modelling paste?

Although a CAS card and without a coloured image, so not my usual style at all, I think this turned out looking great.  Goes to show too that just because you’re doing a card for a male and have to lay off the pretties doesn’t mean you’re going to end up with something plain and boring!

Your clothes should be tight enough to show you are a woman, but loose enough to show you’re a lady

Today’s card features the new 1950’s Fashion from Saturated Canary, which I just knew I had to make for a friend’s birthday when I saw it.

I’ve actually managed to get my card done in time to join in Krista’s colouring contest.  That gorgeous full skirt was fun to colour and I think the pink looks lovely against the darker skin tone I’ve used.  I was going for an Indian skin tone as my friend is of Indian heritage.

Ever happen to you that you just feel impelled to go with a certain style?  Well it did for me, no matter what I tried to plan all I could see was a vintage style, luckily this lush image really suited that style and this card is going to a very feminine friend.

I followed the sketch over at Vintage Challenge to make up my card and raided my scrap bag for my papers.  I’m really chuffed to have actually used only scraps on the outside of this card, something I was basically forced to do as I have piled a whole lot of stuff in front of my paper holders!  The sketch featured lots of layers and I added in a few more, one extra designer paper layer just because I found a piece big enough in my scraps and loads of lovely embellies.  So I am also entering my card in the current challenge over at Hiding in my Craft Room.

To help me decorate my card I’ve followed the mood board at We Love Vintage.  I raided my embellie stores with the mood board in hand and found the cute teapot, armchair and suitcase charms which I vintaged up with some modelling paste.  I picked up the oval frame from one image and finally broke out my Prima Shabby Chic Treasures making a picture frame using a Prima stamp.  I stamped the image quite lightly, maybe too lightly as when I added crackle paint it almost faded away but then it adds to the vintage feel of an old faded painting.  I used a Julie Nutting Mini Doll wood embellishment for the doll; I didn’t have any tiny 3D doll charms and another Prima resin for the mannequin.  I added a dress to the mannequin out of ribbon and lace, colouring the lace with Various Inks.  I also picked up the colours, the soft pinks and white, from the images and the flowers and lace.  To finish I covered off the outdoor images on the inside with some more lovely Maja Design papers.

I wish the Prima Rose Doily die I used was a bit larger so more would have shown through.  I picked out the leaves and the roses with texture paste and added embossing powder over the top and I think it turned out lovely, but unfortunately most of it is completely covered.

My pretty flowers are all from I Am Roses, they all started out white and I coloured them by brushing them with Tattered Rose Distress Ink, which really matched well with the rose trim I used.  As I have the requisite number of I Am Roses flowers I am also linking up my card in their current challenge.  I also coloured the pearl stamens I used with Tattered Rose, need to think of a better way of doing that as they are plastic and the ink did not take very well.

Still round the corner there may wait a new road…

I’m sharing a tag I made today, my second one playing along with Tim Holtz’s 12 Tags of 2015 and this one is July.

Now when I saw this month’s tag I just knew I had to make it to include in the album I’m making of my trip last year.  And what do you know; I had the very stamp set Tim used on his tag.

I didn’t start with a Ranger tag for this as it wasn’t going to be big enough so instead I cut a piece of Kraft cardstock to size and rounded the top, as I wanted to make a luggage tag.  I followed Tim’s instructions and colour scheme to decorate my tag, I just substituted the numbers and rub-on.  26 September was when the US leg of my trip started.  I actually made the rub-on using Grafix Rub-on paper, a medium I am seriously not loving at all but it did the trick as I didn’t have any September stickers or rub-ons.

A luggage tag just has to be leather so I got out some Grungepaper and set to making it look like leather.  I started by covering it in Vintage Photo Distress Ink (I had to use a foam applicator as I didn’t have the right colour stain) and then ran it through my Crossover in a Gears Texture Fade, moving the folder along and running it through twice more to cover the entire area.  Then I brushed on Aged Mahogany and Spiced Marmalade and toned it all down with some more Vintage Photo.  I took an offcut of Grungepaper and did the same to it to make the strap.

To add to the realism I placed a piece of acetate over the tag before adhering the leather down, to look like the bit of plastic under which you slip your name and address on a real luggage tag.  I used a Tim Holtz Buckle and hung a Type Charm off a Loop Pin from the buckle.  The letter K is for Kay, my good friend I travelled with, as I’m doing her up an album too so this tag will go in hers.  I scored across the top so the tag can be flipped up, I’ll add a journaling card to the back and list out our US itinerary on it.

I’m loving how this turned out and am seriously in love with Grungepaper.  I plan to make another similar luggage tag for the Canadian leg of our adventure, wish Tim had a Canadian set to match this American one but at least he has a maple leaf stamp I can use.  Perfect excuse to buy some more Tim stuff!

Over at Vintage Stamping their current theme is travel, got that covered and the stamping part so am linking up my tag there.  A Vintage Journey’s current challenge theme is destinations and, as this is seriously Tim Holtz inspired (well, OK, copied!) I am also entering their challenge.
