But softly gives itself away

We had a long weekend here so I used the extra day off to catch up on my Christmas card from last week and decided to do one featuring a die cut from Cottage Cutz, Lantern with Holly Vine.

My card follows the layout from CAS(E) thisSketch.  My lantern is the rectangular element and instead of doing some kind of background I split my white base with the holly vine.  To make the rectangular element more prominent I added in a sentiment from the Scribbly Christmas set from Tim Holtz.

Over at Christmas Card Throwdown they are looking for you to raid your stash of embellies for gems, pearls or sequins.  I went with pearls and used them for the berries instead of the teeny tiny cut outs from the die.

I’m also entering my card at ABC Christmas in the M for More than one theme.  I’ve cut my die cut more than once to get the layers and to have enough holly vine, I’ve also got more than one layer to my card (matted in green and red to match the holly and berry) and more than one pearl.

May the season warm their souls

Made a quick Christmas card today in between loads of washing featuring the beautiful Candlelight die from Tattered Lace.

Over at CASology their current prompt is “warm”.  When I saw that prompt I knew I wanted to use a candle on my card as when I think of candles I think warm glow.  The fact we have Christmas in summer here in Australia and electricity has done away with candles in all but blackouts is irrelevant, I still grew up on traditional Christmas images of wintertime and candles on trees.  With that in mind I went with a grey/blue background for my candle to give the impression of a winter’s evening.

My card follows the current sketch at Freshly Made Sketches.  The split in the top layer was the perfect place for my sentiment and I used my new Oxide ink to stamp it, the Iced Spruce going nicely with my Pion cardstock.  C.R.A.F.T. Challenge are looking for Christmas projects so I am also entering my card there.

On the first day of Christmas…

Managed to get another card finished today to add to my Christmas card stash using the lovely Pear Tree Partridge die from LDRS Creative.

This card was inspired by the current challenge at Jingle Belles, where they want you to take inspiration from the song “The 12 Days of Christmas”.  Seeing the challenge theme reminded me of this die in my stash so it seemed the perfect time to get it out of its packaging and give it some use.

I cut the die from a piece of watercolour paper and added in all the details with some Tim Holtz Reinkers.  I’ve just now realised that I didn’t run it back through my Crossover with an embossing mat for some added texture, doh!  Probably would have been a good idea seeing I am also entering my card in the current challenge at Allsorts, which has a theme of embossing.  Mine is added with the sentiment, one of Tim’s stamps, and some lovely gold embossing powder.  I also embossed the chest of the partridge as it had some pieces cut out that looked a bit odd to me being empty.  A dusting of silver embossing powder filled them in nicely and added a bit of sparkle to the partridge too.

Embossing is also the optional theme at Happy Little Stampers and their current Christmas challenge, which I’ve just made it in time to enter.  The die cut is so pretty I left this card quite CAS, I had thought about making the centre behind the partridge into a shaker but it seemed all a bit too fiddly and the card is already quite thick thanks to my multiple layers.  Why so many you ask?  Well, because now I have not just a partridge in a pear tree but also fiiiiive goooolden riiiings - ha, bet the song is well and truly stuck in your head now!
