Love's fire heats water...

This is my final card featuring the gorgeous new Mermaid collection at Simply B Stamps, this was uses Corinne Mermaid and follows the required theme on the Simply B Fan Page challenge of glitter.

I decided I wanted to go with a real contrast on this card so I’ve coloured my image to be fire and placed it on my blue water background.  Fire just seemed to suit this image, not sure why, unless it has something to do with Corinne’s temper.  Did I just type that out aloud?!  Love how her tail turned out as well as how my first ever shaker card worked out.

To make up my sketch I have chosen an old sketch (#73) from Sketch N Stash, this one worked well as it had a large circle element.  I’ve got quite a few items on the card from the stash including my shaker elements and the paper flowers I used.

Cut It Up currently has an under the sea themed challenge going on and as I’ve got Mermaid Corinne underwater, well, at least glitter-water, and I’ve also got a die cut or six, so I am entering my card there.  Rather than the rectangle element I added a piece of lace, really lovely lace, a shame the circle I need to cut to fit my image for the shaker part is so big, it makes it hard to see that lush lace.  But as it is there, I am also entering my card over at the Alphabet Challenge.

Now hopefully this card has inspired you to come join the July Fan Page challenge.  If glitter isn’t your thing then you can always go for Sheri Mermaid and add some twine like I did on my earlier card found at this post.  Twine doesn’t do it for you either?  How about going for some embossing (wet or dry) and the lovely Bettina Mermaid like on my card seen here?  Need some more inspiration?  Check out the DT gals and what beauty they have created with these images by following the links at the bottom of the page.  Sure hope to see your project in the challenge.

The air itself is filled with monsters

It’s challenge time over at Simply Steampunk Challenges and our theme this month is piecing together (e.g. quilting or stitches) and the whole DT is playing with this gorgeous image, Bride of Frankenstein.

You’ve got to go and check out all the different ways the talented teamies have used this image.

To make up my card I’ve followed the sketch at Sketch N Stash, I did rotate the image element though to fit with the orientation of mine and also swapped the sentiment for some Steampunky metallic goodness and roses.  I’ve had the Prima Pipes in my stash for a long time and have used most of them on this project.  I thought they fitted well with the image, I imagine Frankenstein’s laboratory to have lots of exposed pipes.  I also imagine he’d have strapped his creations down as he brought them to life with an electric shock hence the leather strap and the lovely Idea-ology buckle.

With all the metal elements on this I am also entering it in the current challenge over at SanDee&amelie’s.  I was also going to have a piece of fake metal with a chippie frame I faux metalled up but it ended up way too big and hid all the stitching I did.  I wanted to keep the stitching in view as it ties in with the image again and all the stitches on her.

The Crafter’s Café has Steampunk for their current theme so I am also linking up my card over there.

Now hopefully I’ve inspired you to create your own Steampunk project.  No?  Then go take a look at the SSC teamies and their gorgeous creations, they are sure to get your creative juices flowing.  We’d sure love to see you play along with our challenge, just remember you must use either Bride of Frankenstein or Frankenstein’s Bride Portrait.

…the touch of earthly years

Today I’m showcasing another of the new Fairy Tales & Myths’ images from Simply B Stamps, this one is Sleeping Beauty.

The current sketch at Sketch N Stash suited the shape of the image perfectly and proved to have endless opportunities for grunge-ing and vintage-ing up my card. I made a real effort to go through my stash of designer papers for this card and I found a virtual goldmine of goodies that all layered up beautifully, all in lovely moody blues.

I even raided my stash for all my embellies, some of them, like the Prima borders I’ve had for a long time and never used.  It’s hard to tell but the round embellie at the top left of Sleeping Beauty has ‘memories’ embossed on it, it’s a Prima Junkyard Finding, another item long neglected in my stash, as were the Prima Water Pipes.  I opened the packet some time ago but they didn’t suit the card I was going to use them on but I liked it on the corner of this one.  With all my stash raids I am also entering this in the current challenge at Simply Create Too.

And just to prove that your stash really can be like a craft shop I’ve actually chosen my decorative elements based on the current Tic, Tac, Poe grid at Quoth the Raven.  My Prima border contains a fibre (lace) and I’ve got more along the bottom, I’ve done some wet embossing on the top background piece behind Sleeping Beauty (I’m going to have to replenish my stash of Fran-tage soon given how much I use it!) and I’ve got several sparkly and shimmery shiny pieces including my metal embellies, the sparkle on my flowers from the mists I needed to use to get the right colour, and my gems.

While the image of a woman in a coffin mightn’t be the most uplifting I’ve tried to soften it with the sentiment of “sweet dreams” to suggest it is just an extended slumber.  It also harkens back to the original story of the good fairy changing the evil fairy’s curse from death to perpetual sleep until awakened by love.  And what princess doesn’t have sweet dreams of her prince coming to awaken her?
