…that all, that is really worth the doing, is what we do for others

I’m sharing another two thank you cards, this time featuring only die-cuts from Clearly Besotted and Spellbinders.

The layout of both cards follows the current sketch at CAS(E) this Sketch.  For the first card I used the negative cut and then added some interest with a coloured background I made using alcohol inks on Yupo paper.  The second I’ve take the positive cuts and glittered them up, unfortunately they were a bit large, thinking I should have cut around the insert die rather than using the matching outline die.  The sketch is still there but the elements are just rather enlarged.

Over at Crafty Gals’ Corner they are looking for projects that include a sentiment, which both my cards do.  As that sentiment is giving thanks I am also linking my cards up at the current Mod Squad challenge.

You know, I've been thinking about time travel again

I’m sharing a tag today, my first for Tim Holtz’s 12 Tags of 2016.

Now last year I played along with a few of Tim’s tags and for the most part looked to recreate his tags.  This year Tim has mixed it up a bit and is doing a focus on techniques he’s calling his technique remix.  So with that in mind I am going to try to take the technique/s he showcases and then make my own design with it.  I am also playing along with a crafty friend, come December when we each have our 12 tags completed we are going to box them up and ship to each other as our Christmas present.

So with that in mind, I set about applying the two techniques Tim used on January’s tag; industrious metal and chalkboard, to a design my friend would like.  Given this is the first tag of the year I thought a theme based on moments and memories would be ideal and I had just the hoarded stash for it; my Idea-ology Pocket Watch.  It’s been in my stash for a few years waiting for the perfect project, the something special for someone special who would appreciate it and this tag, this crafty adventure I’m going on with my friend was just that special thing.

Now I started planning around the Pocket Watch and thinking about time flying and I was wondering if I had some wing stamps when I got thrown a bit of a curve ball in a note on some crafty stash I ordered.  That stash was the Prima Typo Zippers I bought from Paperbark Crafts; now Kerry has gone above and beyond on service so when she asked to see what I create with the zippers I felt I needed to use them on a project quick smart.  Which then lead me to fabric and the fabric of time, so rather than a tear in the fabric I have a neat zippered opening, thanks to the Marianne die I’ve also been hoarding in my collection.

So now I had my industrious metal element and I had neatly reversed the techniques, my industrious metal was my focal and that left the chalkboard for the background.  Thing was I had no appropriate stamps; no matter, let’s try it with a stencil I thought and, what do you know?, it worked a treat.  I did learn that if you use Pebbles Chalk it tends to adhere everywhere to your cardstock and you have to go and erase the bits you don’t want but I didn’t have school chalk and the shop I went to only had pack of coloured stuff.  Still, I think the chalkboard effect is there and I love my clock background.

To make my “tear” I sanded back some Core’dinations Black Magic cardstock to reveal the layer of blue and spritzed with Perfect Pearls Mist in Perfect Pearls.  Kind of starry-universey-type of a background like I imagine you’d find if you poked a hole in time.  I did the industrious technique on the zipper die with an added step of Antiqued Bronze paint to match the colour of the Typo Zipper but stuck to the technique for the inside of my pocket watch.  Finished off with an appropriate Word Band and I am really pleased with how my tag came out.

Over at Just Us Girls their trend week is metals and metallic.  My card features both with a metallic effect through the industrious metal and also metal in my embellies so I am entering my tag in their challenge.

The current theme at Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge is stencils.  As I have created my background using a stencil I am also linking my tag up there.

Happy Birthday Lisa!

Today is a very special day, it’s the birthday of one of my awesome teamies, Lisa, and I’ve made a calendar and notepad holder for her featuring her special birthday image from Betty.

And a shot of the card closed.

These little calendars were featured on the Noor Design blog with a tut by Clarissa and I knew I wanted to make one as soon as I saw them but had to wait for something special.  And what could be more special than the birthday of a wonderful person?

I haven’t Steampunked in a while and it was fun to get out my metal embellies.  There aren’t too many layers on this project, on account of how it has to fold down, but there are still lots of elements.  As You Like It are asking what your favourite style is, so I guess from this you’d say my favourite style is fussy and I guess it is.  Don’t get me wrong, I do like a CAS card and when the image calls for it I’ll go CAS but I think I like my layers and my embellies too much to ever go completely CAS.

To soften up my metal embellies I added in some small flowers, another favourite of mine.  With my flowers I’m entering this over at the current challenge at Through the Purple Haze.  Flowers are also the theme at Creative Knockouts so I’m also entering my card there.

But dying without her vain were life of mine…

The card I’m sharing features a new image from Simply B Stamps, Miller Arabian Knight, that I did up as a Valentine’s card.

To make up my card I followed the current sketch over at Feeling Sketchy.  I’m trying to keep to my resolution of using my dies more (OK for some just using them for the first time!) so swapped out the thin element for a lovely swirly heart die.  I added a plain clay heart in the centre of the die cut heart for some added interest and depth.  I did leave out the bow element as I couldn’t really think of something that would suit my image and I figured the swirly die was enough embellishment.

Over at Country View Challenges they are running a drips and drops challenge and one of the DT, Brenda of Bumblebees and Butterflies, did an awesome project up with a fab background I just loved.  So I hopped on over to her blog and used her technique of an acrylic block, Distress Ink and water to create mine.  I ended up with a bit of white space so I grabbed a Distress Stain and spritzed it over.  Brenda had a few more elements to her background but I was sure I’d bugger it all up if I tried to do any more so just stuck with this simple two steps and I must say I am very happy with the result.

As I have a couple of hearts on this I am also entering it in the current challenge over at Die Basteltanten.
