Tween spirit

When I was growing up you went from a kid to a teen but now we have tweens with some of the cute of a kid and some of the attitude of a teen.  One of my nieces is turning 11 next month so I think that makes her officially a tween, the perfect excuse to use this stamp with attitude.

She’s a digi stamp from Tiddly Inks aptly called Whatever! and I coloured her with my Copics.  She has beautiful auburn hair just like my niece.  I added Liquid Glass to her hair to make it shine.

I cut the wonky squares and the shape around the sentiment using my Cricut, I used Wild Card and George carts but I forget which image was on which cart.  I cut them from yellow cardstock and then inked them with olive ink.  I added some Perfect Pearls Patina Green to the still wet ink to give a hint of sparkle.  I then used Liquid Glass to create an epoxy sticker look.

The background was letterpressed using the Distress Stripes Cuttlebug folder.  I only have three inks for letterpressing so I was limited in my colour choice but I think the green and silver works with the other colours I chose.  It’s a bit smudgy (my second attempt at letterpressing so I still haven't mastered the inking bit yet) but I think that just adds to the grunge look of the card.

I needed something to add a bit of embellishment and the sprockets and gears from Tim Holtz were just perfect, I layered two on top of each other and fixed them with one of the included brads.  I didn’t have a stamp that fit for the sentiment so I printed one from my computer and traced it on to the tag.  I used Picket Fence Distress Marker to ink it.

I based the whole thing on a sketch from Raq’s challenge over at the Cricut MB from a couple of weeks ago.  It’s taken me this long to finish it but I'm really happy with the way this card turned out. 

I’ll be seeing my niece in a couple of weeks, it’s a bit early for her birthday but will give her her card and present so I can do so in person rather than mailing as I’ve had to do in past years.  I’m putting together a craft bucket with card bases and bits and pieces so hope this card will help inspire her with her own crafting.

Jumping in puddles

This cute little card was made following a sketch over at the Some Odd Girl Blog.

I used SOG’s Puddle Hopping Tia, she’s a digi stamp and I coloured her with my Copics. I don’t know if red, pink and yellow all go together but it’s the sort of colour combination my nieces would put together in an outfit for themselves! I added some Smooch Glitz to her umbrella and the water puddle and then went over the umbrella and just the splashes with Liquid Glass to give them shine.

The papers are from a Little Yellow Bicycle pad, it’s called Hello Spring! and I thought the words fitted with Tia, who’s clearly having a ball, and all things fun that kids do. I loved the butterflies on the second piece, although I’m not sure they’d be out in the rain! But I decided to add some more anyway with tiny stickers going up from the two printed on the foreground paper.

The row of butterflies in pink are a Martha Stewart pop-up edge punch, I used it twice to get the double row. I cut them from white card and inked them with Distressed Ink Pink Raspberry, one of Tim Holtz’s Summer Seasonal colours. I put some Smooch Glitz on the pop-up ones and folded their wings up to really make them pop off the page.

I think the card turned out really cute and I will give her to one of my nieces for her birthday. I’m also feeling brave enough to enter another challenge so will enter this over at the SOG blog.

Amor

I made this card at the same time as the raining hearts one.

I followed a sketch on the Raq’s Challenge on the Cricut MB and, because it was a fairly simple sketch, I let the embellishments add the dazzle.  The cream paper and the ribbon are both from Webster’s Pages.  I cut the ‘Amor’ and swirls from the Elegant Cakes cart and then used Smooch Glitz to echo the colours and sparkle of the ribbon.

While the last card was cute I think this one is elegant and could maybe work as an engagement or wedding card.

Raining hearts

I was in a foul mood a couple weeks ago on account of stuff happening at work so when I sat down to craft last weekend I wanted to make cards that were the complete opposite of how I felt.  The result was a whole lot of pink and hearts!

This little cutey is Catch my Heart from Tiddly Inks and I coloured her with Copics.  I actually did three in different colours but I liked the blue best.  I cut the raining hearts out individually and stuck them with a tiny bit of a 3D Zot so they’d sit off the page.  The background is Cuttlebug Swiss Dots and I used my Cricut to cut the ovals so they’d be nice and even.  The lace trim is from Webster’s Pages.

Bewitching

Here is a fun card I made back in May with my first lot of Simply B Stamps.  This is Witchy Boo Betty (retired), isn’t she cute?

I did this one for another Raq’s challenge over on the Cricut MB where the theme was Halloween.  We don’t celebrate Halloween here in Australia much, although there’s more and more stuff in the shops each year, and I don’t really like spooky things or creepy crawlies but somehow I seem to have three Halloween themed carts, a Cuttlebug embossing folder or two or maybe even five and I’m sure I’ve got some Halloween themed paper in my stack.

I coloured Betty with Copics and added Liquid Glass just to her hair and Stickles to the stars on her outfit to make them pop.  I didn’t have a background paper I liked so I coloured that with Copics too and then added some shine with Smooch Spritz.

I cut the tombstones and sentiment from the Happy Hauntings cart.

Although this was one of my early cards I am still really pleased with how it turned out.  I found this Betty really easy to colour, although I did look at pictures of ones others had coloured to help.  Shading is still something I am working on.

Flower friends

I made this card front a while back, it’s one of the few I’ve entered into challenges.  It was for a three elements challenge requiring one die cut, one stamped image and one embossing.

I used the Cuttlebug Sweet Chelsea border embossing folder and cut the black piece using the Ornamental Iron cart.  The leaves are from the Art Nouveau cart. 

I used a CTMH stamp for the daisies, which I coloured with Copics.  The sentiment is also from CTMH.

I haven’t mounted this on to a card yet.  I’ve taken to doing a lot of just card fronts as I do them for the MB Raq’s challenge but not always with someone in mind.  I like to keep my options open as to what I will do with the creations and am building a bit of stash.

Betty 007: Licence to Craft

There’s a new set of Bettys in town and they are AWESOME!

I ordered the digi pre-release sight unseen and they didn’t disappoint.  I could see a card in there straight away and have been working away on this one for a couple of days.  Introducing Betty 007: Licensed to Craft.

She didn’t start out like this, she was drawn in true Bond style with gun and knife but I am a strictly non-violent crafter.  So I had to swap her gun for a bottle of Stickles and her knife for some craft scissors.  I used my Cricut to cut the scissors from the Cricut Everyday cart and the same cart to cut the Cricut C.

The rest of the word ‘craft’ is cut from the Elegant Cake cart.  The netting came in the Webster’s warehouse sale box and I added some bling to the Cricut C's antennae and paper roses to embellish the netting.

I used the George cart to cut the licence plate and the words are rub-ons.  I inked the edges of the plate to give it a bit of a border.

I coloured Betty with Copics and added some Smooch to her necklace and shoes.  I added pearls for her earrings, which I painted with Smooch.  The Stickle bottle has a Zot underneath to give it the rounded look.  I finished off with a coat of Liquid Glass to make Betty shine.

The background is my version of the Bond gun barrel done using Stickles, Ranger ink and some Perfect Pearls.
