Sugar and spice

Today I’ve got the first part of a big project I am doing up, a baby book for a colleague at work who is expecting her first little girl.  This is taking a lot longer than I thought to complete so to motivate me I am going to post up the only bit that is finished so far, the cover.

To make up my baby book I’ve used a Tim Holtz Collection Folio, the large size, and gone to town with the decorating of it.  To do up the front cover I have followed the layout sketch at Feeling Sketchy and got inky and powdery with all sorts of good things.  I started with Tim Holtz Distress Paint in Picket Fence and then sprinkled on some Fran-tage.  On the layout I used modelling paste and a stencil for my butterflies and added some Distress Ink into the modelling paste as well as some more embossing powders over the top.  I also did the same with the textured background that is only just visible under the papers.

With all my various effects on the cover I am also entering this in the current Craft Hoarders Anonymous challenge.  There are copious amounts of flowers all over the cover, as expected for little girl’s book, so I am also entering this in the current challenge at Paper Crafting Journey.

I swapped out the black elastic closure for some pink elastic.  I was going to put a word band or some letter charms on the elastic but the cover is way too busy as it is.  Notice that border, looks pretty good, doesn’t it?  Well it had better for the work that went into it, let’s just say these Collection Folios are made thick and tough and it was also too big to go through my Grand Calibur so I traced and cut round my Sizzix die and then used various sized hole punches for the lacy edge.

Opening up the folio you get two flaps top and bottom and I decorated the outside of these with some chippie words, these I painted up and sprinkled with Fran-tage also.  The large heart buttons have been in my stash for ever as have the tulle flowers, I think they were from Webster’s Pages.

I’ve tried to tie things together with matching elements so I’ve got some of the same Organza Pearl Pink on the inside of these flaps.  The top one is missing the pocket, I have no idea where I’ve put the packet, it’s got to be somewhere in my craft room!  It’s meant to be for the hospital name card from the baby’s crib.  The bottom one is ready to go with a pocket for the baby’s wrist tag.

There’s also a flap on the right side and I’ve used the same Organza Pearl Pink on the outside with some buttons from Jesse James.  On the inside I have the same lace as the top and bottom flaps and some chippies and more of the Jesse James buttons and flowers to tie in with the other flaps too.

You’ve got to have space in a baby book for all the vital statistics from the birth and I’ve put that on the inside left cover using a piece of vellum over some lovely shimmering cardstock with some more flowers and another piece of lace.

The back inside cover I’ve done up as the last page looking back over baby’s first year with some journaling cards ready to go.  I’ve tied this in with the flaps using the same lace and roses too.

Stay tuned for the inside pages, hopefully in the next day or two, I need to get this finished before baby arrives!

Sometimes a cowgirl has to do what a cowboy can’t

This is sadly my last card as a guest DT for the Outlawz Sketch challenge and it features the fab image, Barn Brat, from this month’s sponsor, The Stamping Chef.

Here’s the awesome sketch for this week.

Notice anything?  Yep, I changed it right up and made a circle card.  That’s what I love about sketches, they are really just a starting point for your creativity and you can change them up how ever you want.  So I decided to get out my Nesties and make a fun circle card, which meant I had to also swap out the rectangle element for an oval.  Wish I had a larger oval but the only set I have larger are ornate and I wanted just a plain one.

The fun wavy elements reminded me so much of rick rack that I just had to use some for them and a spritz of Smooch made my plain white rick rack a lovely cow brown.  With that sheriff’s badge on her hat I had to use some star embellies on this, wish I had enough yellow stars but I only had five so I mixed them up with some blue ones as a neat way to hide the ends of the rick rack.  The current theme at My Sheri Crafts calls for a star on your project so with my six I am also linking up my card there.

Seeing as this is featuring a Stamping Chef image I am also entering their weekly challenge where the theme is always anything goes.  Ive coloured the fun image with, what else, but my Copics.  As they are my favourite colouring medium Im also linking my card at the current Corrosive challenge.

I’ve had a blast being part of the awesome DT at the Outlawz Sketch for this month, thanks ladies for having me as a guest.  I will definitely be back entering the weekly challenges next week and hope you’ll come join the fun too.

If, as mine is, thy life a slumber be…

The Baby Teen Scene collection has been released at Simply B Stamps and this card features the cute Nap Time Miller from the collection.

To make up my card I’ve followed the current sketch over at Seems a Little Sketchy.  For a change I didn’t resize to fit my usual 6x6 card instead I resized to be a DL size as that’s the current theme at My Time to Craft.  We won’t talk about the sheet of cardstock I messed up in printing my logo on the back, it’s tricky working with a card that’s a rectangle, you’ve got to get things placed just right and I didn’t set my printer properly.  Starting with an 8x8.25 piece of card means no second go at the one sheet like a 6x6 but I think the size worked well for the image and the sketch.

I found the plaid paper in my Graphic 45 stash; it reminds me of a blanket so worked perfectly for this image.  I wanted to keep things fairly simple as this is a boy card so went for textures and all shades of blue.  I swapped out the plain oval element for the scalloped Nestie to give more of a cloud impression, a bit of Fran-tage on the outline added to the effect.  The puffy sticker from Freckled Fawn was a serendipitous find in my stash, the right colour and the perfect sentiment.

As this card is for a boy and features a die cut I’ve got both themes covered for the current Ladybug Crafts’ challenge so I’m also entering it there.

To see more of these awesome images, head on over to the SBS blog and check out what the rest of the DT have done with them.  You can also see more of my projects featuring Blankie Chris at this post, Rockin’ Baby Christian over here and Rubber Ducky Jude at this post.  Oh, and stay tuned to see what I’ve done with the awesome girls in this collection because you knew there had to be equally cute girlie images!
