Happy 40th Birthday Kay

Today is an awesome day, why?  Because 40 years ago today my friend Kay was born and that is definitely worth celebrating, which is exactly what us girls on the SBS DT have done using this fab image Betty drew up specially.

I’ve chosen to make a tag for Kay using the current sketch over at Sketch Saturday.  Rather than using paper for the rectangular element I decided to try my new Mega Flakes and FlitterGlu from IndigoBlu and I think it turned out looking great.

I took the great sentiment Betty did up and added it to the back of the tag and embossed it in gold.

With all the gold elements I’m entering this in Inkspirational’s current challenge.  As I’ve also got a whole lot of embossing I’m also linking it up at Crafting By Design.

Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life

My card today features an awesome image from The Stamping Chef called The Artist.

Now Tamara, the Stamping Chef herself, is running a competition to be the ‘colouring face’ of the Stamping Chef, details can be found over in the shop where you buy the image.  I couldn’t resist entering as it would be such an honour to have my colouring featured on her shop.  Also the image was clearly going to be a challenge with all that curly hair so I really wanted an excuse to colour it up.

Of course, once it was coloured I had to put The Artist on a card.  I followed the current sketch at Sweet Sketch Wednesday 2 to make up my card and selected papers that made me think of painting and paints.  I don’t know how long I’ve had the Echo Park or Little Yellow Bicyle pads I used, they’ve been in my stash for a good while so I’m entering my card in Crafty Creations’ current challenge to use something old from your stash.

As always my card is a 6x6 square, so I am also entering it in the current challenge at The Crafter’s Café.  I made the circle elements I mounted the iamnge on using my trusty Nesties, layering a plain circle on a blossom pattern.  I also made my own embellies with some pretty butterflies from a Marianne Design Creatables die.  With my die cuts I am entering this in the current PDE Linky Party challenge.  To finish off my butterflies I added in some adhesive pearls and mounted them on some lace tape, another thing I’ve had in my stash for ever, and pearl trim so I am also linking my card up at Divas by Design.

Seeing I have used a Stamping Chef image on my card I am also entering it in their current challenge, where its always anything goes.

…his work is noiseless, and his hands are mutes

I have another masculine card today for another colleague at work, this one I’ve used Some Odd Girl’s 1920’s Kody on.

Kody is my trusty go-to image for male cards, he is my favourite for them as he is so very stylish and works for a CAS through to a more elaborate card.  I’ve also used a couple of different Nesties on my card, I love my Nesties, there must be a shape for every occasion, I just wish my bank balance allowed me to buy them all!  Allsorts Challenge is running a ‘favourite things’ challenge so I am linking up my card there.

To make up my card I followed the current sketch at Sketch n’ Dies, one of my favourite sketch challenges.  I took their sketch and flipped it for the ‘front’ of my card so I could turn it into an easel for interest and have the pennants give a deliberately uneven edge to the card.  I used the sketch again for the base of my easel.

I didn’t want this to be feminine so I swapped out the flower element for a jute star-type flower that I made myself.  I used a clock face brad from my stash to hold my flower together and to tie in with the washi I used on the flags.  As this card is heading off to a male and hopefully is fairly masculine I am also entering it in the current challenge at the Alphabet Challenge.

Five, six, pick up sticks

My double layout from my baby book today features the adorable Noor from Lacy Sunshine.

Little Noor was a freebie recently and was drawn up by Heather to celebrate the birthday of a little girl whose mother runs a crafty shop.  Although Noor is supposed to be two I’ve done this layout up ready for a photo from baby’s first birthday.  As I’ve used little Noor I am entering this in the challenge at Noor Designs.

The layout is from the current sketch at Sketchabilities and allowed me to use up some of the scraps from the other pages.  There was lots of space in the sketch so I’ve used a stencil with a row of butterflies to fill it, this is the same stencil I used on the cover so it ties in nicely with that.  With my stencilling I am also entering this at Country View’s current challenge.

I’ll have the last two pages done up over the next couple of days and you can see the cover from this book at this post, the first page here, the last page here, a double layout at this post and another double layout here.
