…a superb tailor’s work is ageless

I’ve made another parcel card for a special birthday featuring my all-time favourite image for a male, 1920’s Kody from Some Odd Girl, which seems to have been retired!

This is going out to a guy so I didn’t want it all florally and girlie so I went to my favourite stash of embellies, my Prima and Tim Holtz metal stuff.  What a great find that there was a 30 among the Prima Door Signs because, you guessed it, this is for a 30th birthday.  I also found some words that fitted in well and allowed me to jazz up the parcels, which I’d stuck down before thinking about adding twine or anything to.  I’ve missed using my metal embellies as I haven’t done anything Steampunky for a while so it was great to get them out.  As they are my favourite embellies I’m entering my card in the current challenge at Tuesday Throwdown.

I did throw in one flower as there was this space just sitting there under the Typo Bulbs, it is a burlap one and I did alter it a bit.  I pulled off the bottom layer and trimmed the others to make it smaller and pulled out the stamens, I swapped them for a metal brad and some glitter.  Hopefully not too girlie!

I thought the quote from the Kaiser rub ons was appropriate for a milestone birthday and it helped fill the space too.  As did the parcels to make this a nicely embellished card without all the flowery, girlie stuff we normally add to our cards.

I’m also entering my card in the current challenge at Incy Wincy Designs, where the theme is to use a number, something I have done thanks to this being a milestone birthday and that great Prima Door Sign.

He never puts a foot wrong

My card today features a fun new image from Simply B Stamps, Karen and Best Pal.

To make up my card I followed the current sketch at Techno Stamper.  I swapped out the star element for a winner’s rosette to match my theme.  That theme is National Velvet, hence the purple and gold outfit (not quite jockey silks but you’ve got to roll with the image) and the light and dark background (I think of the movie in that way, there’s the lightness of Velvet’s belief in Pie and their triumph against the background of the dark of Mi’s troubled past).  I have to say I was struggling a bit as to what to do with the image and so did what I always do and headed over to PaperPlayful to check out challenge themes, when I saw Incy Wincy Designs’ one about the inspiration from a song, book or movie National Velvet popped into my head.  A spot of Googling to confirm the right colours for the outfit and I was set.

One, two, buckle my shoe

A while ago I posted the cover of the baby book I have been making (see it at this post) and I finally have a layout from it to show, this one features the adorable Baby Blocks Rio from Simply B Stamps’ Baby Teen Scene collection.

To make up the pages I’ve followed the current sketch over at Stuck on U Sketches, I just flipped the sketch horizontally to have the pages mirror images.  I want the whole book to tie in together so for part of the horizontal elements I used the same stencil as I did on the cover only this time I left it white to break up all that pink.

I found some perfect ribbon and ric rac in my stash to complete the horizontal elements.  I don’t do baby stuff often so why I bought two rolls of pink and white gingham ribbon is anyone’s guess but goes to show how deep my stash runs!  As I have ribbon on the page I am entering this in Incy Wincy Designs’ current challenge.

Baby Blocks Rio was the perfect image for this page of clever little firsts, she is so stinkin’ cute.  I didn’t do two images though as I really wanted to contrast the picture page with the journaling page and, besides, it allowed me to add in some cute blocks that I made using shrink film.  To tie the two sides together I mounted both Rio and the blocks on the same die cut and used another for the titles.

As this is a record of a young child’s life I think it suits a theme of ‘forever young’ perfectly so I am entering it in the current challenge at Corrosive Challenge.

Now I really will be posting up the rest of the layouts over the next few days as I have to finish this off once and for all so please come back and see how it all looks.
