How did it get so late so soon?

What do you do when you realise it’s someone’s birthday today and you don’t have a card made?  Reach for your go to image (1920’s Kody from Some Odd Girl is mine for male cards), crop it and go CAS, of course!

Now because I am not so flash with layouts I did take some time out to go find a suitable layout, it saved me time in the end as it took the guesswork out for me.  The current one at CAS on Sundays worked beautifully with my image and the need to crop (no time to colour a full image) although I did layer up the background papers to add some additional weight and interest to the card.

Now this card is both CAS and for a guy so I am entering it in the current challenge at Cardz for Guyz.  I’m also entering it in Stamping Sensations’ current challenge where the theme is also a male card.  And given all my white space on this card I’m also linking it up at AAA Cards in their bare naked CAS challenge.

...the two natures that contended in the field of my consciousness...

I’m sharing a card today made for a milestone birthday for a colleague at work.

To make up the “belly band” that holds this card contained when it’s not on display I’ve followed the current sketch at Techno Stamper’s.  I did make the circle element smaller but only because I didn’t have a clock in the appropriate size.  I wanted to go with a time theme as the milestone was 50 and the colours of the paper and design worked really well for the look and feel I was going for.

On the actual card itself I’ve taken in the recipient’s favourite pastime of running by featuring Track Alex from Simply B Stamps, which sadly is a retired image.  I’ve also added in my all-time favourite male image of 1920s Kody from Some Odd Girl, also sadly retired.  (You so gotta get those digis when you see them as they are here one day gone the next!)   I put these images on the card as I am always jokingly telling him he looks like a bum in his running attire but very distinguished in his suit for work.

Papertake Weekly’s current challenge is to use three or more shapes on your card; I have a circle (clock face), rectangles (the card base, the shape behind the images and on the belly band) and squares (the patterned paper top and bottom row of the card).  I’m also entering it in the current challenge over at Cardz 4 Guyz where it’s the easy peasy anything goes theme.

…a superb tailor’s work is ageless

I’ve made another parcel card for a special birthday featuring my all-time favourite image for a male, 1920’s Kody from Some Odd Girl, which seems to have been retired!

This is going out to a guy so I didn’t want it all florally and girlie so I went to my favourite stash of embellies, my Prima and Tim Holtz metal stuff.  What a great find that there was a 30 among the Prima Door Signs because, you guessed it, this is for a 30th birthday.  I also found some words that fitted in well and allowed me to jazz up the parcels, which I’d stuck down before thinking about adding twine or anything to.  I’ve missed using my metal embellies as I haven’t done anything Steampunky for a while so it was great to get them out.  As they are my favourite embellies I’m entering my card in the current challenge at Tuesday Throwdown.

I did throw in one flower as there was this space just sitting there under the Typo Bulbs, it is a burlap one and I did alter it a bit.  I pulled off the bottom layer and trimmed the others to make it smaller and pulled out the stamens, I swapped them for a metal brad and some glitter.  Hopefully not too girlie!

I thought the quote from the Kaiser rub ons was appropriate for a milestone birthday and it helped fill the space too.  As did the parcels to make this a nicely embellished card without all the flowery, girlie stuff we normally add to our cards.

I’m also entering my card in the current challenge at Incy Wincy Designs, where the theme is to use a number, something I have done thanks to this being a milestone birthday and that great Prima Door Sign.

Birthday Madness

March really is the month for birthdays, so I have yet another birthday card, this one featuring a SOG image, Mad Hatter Kody.

This card is for a guy so I kept the patterns quite plain and didn’t go for any embellishments other than the die cuts.  Aren’t those teacups cute?  The recipient is a teetotaller, literally, he drinks tea (not coffee) at work all day.

I followed the sketch at this month’s challenge on the SOG blog although I moved my sentiment to fit my theme and flipped the sketch on its side.  I always thought it was the Mad Hatter who was having an unbirthday tea party but turns out it was Humpty Dumpty who got the unbirthday present so instead I used the raven riddle for my sentiment.  It follows through to the inside, where I printed my sentiment on some cardstock before cutting my frame.
