A Sting in the Tale

It’s challenge time over at Simply Steampunk Challenges and this month’s theme is metal.  My project features the beautiful Scorpio from the new Steampunk Zodiac collection at Simply B Stamps, drawn by the talented Abigail Larson.

I was looking for a suitable scorpion shaped S for the tag and stumbled on the awesome Bio-Alphabet of Mechanical Insects by Carolina Veliz and, luckily for me, her S was a scorpion.  And, her work is available for use by others, you can alter it but I loved her drawing in its raw form looking like a piece of metal art, just perfect for a metal challenge project.  I also found a great mechanical parts font by an illustrator named Georgie to go with the S.

To make up my card I’ve followed the sketch at Fusion Card Challenge.  As the SSC challenge called for metal I decided I’d get creative with some of the many metal cogs and other embellies I have and make my own Steampunk scorpion – what do you think?  I know, looks more like a crab than a scorpion, I only had circle embellies to work with and really wanted to use the pocket watch and I was convinced I was doing Cancer anyway – goes to show how much I know about the Zodiacs!

All Round Nice Guy

I’ve got another awesome Robert’s Family Portrait from Simply B Stamps to share today, this is Mr Roberts.

This card is destined for a male friend’s birthday so I have gone for lots of metal in my embellies and kept the colours fairly subdued.  It’s interesting to note how many of us DT girls coloured these images using green!

As this card is masculine themed I’m entering it in the

A Scrappy Little Scamp

Today I’m sharing another one of the new Steampunk The Robert’s Family Portraits from Simply B Stamps, this little cutey is Betty’s son Jude.  He was drawn by the super talented Abigail Larson and I think he is simply adorable.  I decided I would put him on an album ready for Halloween pics (not long to wait for the best holiday of the year!).

The album covers came with three rings so I used those, I made the binding with some thick cardboard off some packaging, some paper from the Chillingsworth Manor collection from Echo Park that had a matching pattern and shades of orange and green to match the cover and my Copic colours.  I reinforced the binding with Tyvek, which I painted black with Tim Holtz Distress Stain, I also used this to dye the leather strap of the closure.

I wanted to make the binding a bit more fancy and hide the rings so I tied some ribbons and made some charms to hang off the rings.

As this is not a card I’m entering it in some anything goes challenges at Hobby House Challenge Blog, Challenges 4 Everybody, and Paper Take Weekly as well as at Left of Centre with a LOC theme of Steampunk.
