…there’s no such thing as a stranger

Sharing a card featuring the beautiful Cherry Blossom image from Make it Crafty.

This is going out to a special lady turning 90, although I have kept that rather subtle on the card!  Two things this special nonagenarian (not a word you get to say too much!) loves are flowers and small birds so I have combined them on this card.  Colouring flowers is certainly not my forte but I gave it my best with some no lines water colouring.  I chose cherry blossoms after seeing the inspiration photo at The Card Concept where I also picked up the blue background although I did make mine into a sky with some fluffy white clouds.  As an aside, how awesome is that dress in the photo, would love to add it to my wardrobe!

Decided to add some interest to the otherwise CAS layout by fussy cutting the bottom of the flowers and then the mat and base cardstock.  Would have been way easier if I could use my Silhouette properly to do the cutting for me but I think it was worth the effort.

The image was so large there really wasn’t room for a sentiment on the front, well, not a fancy one befitting of a 90th birthday card.  But the pearl theme at Allsorts prompted me to dig out the pearl heart from my stash to frame a Remnant Rub 90 and have one of Tim’s metal birds carry that pearl heart on a string of pearls.  Have to say I always associate pearls with older ladies ~ Barbara Bush anyone? ~ so they were perfect for this card.  Although I did learn the anniversary gift for 90 is stone, really?!  You achieve that milestone and you get a lump of stone, guess that’s what happens for an anniversary that next to no one achieves!  But I did frame my top panel with a piece of grey cardstock as a nod to the stone and it did fit the colours nicely.

To tie the bird in with the flowers I coloured it slightly with a Victorian Velvet Distress Crayon covered with some Picket Fence.  It is subtle but looks nice in real life.  And because my focal image is of flowers I am also entering this in the current challenge at Crafty Friends.

Oh, and I added my fancy sentiment, a gorgeous chippie also from Make it Crafty to the inside of my card.  Love how the chippies look coloured up with Distress Markers and doused in clear embossing powder.  Tied it altogether with some pearls.
