Under the daisy's mocking spell

It’s Wednesday Sketch challenge time over at the Outlawz and I have a card featuring another image from this month’s awesome sponsor, Oak Pond Creations, on my card, this is Georgia’s Daisies.

And the sketch this week.

I’ve flipped the sketch and added in some lace for my zig-zag elements as my ability to cut paper to that shape is rather limited.  I needed something to help me pull the whole card together, I’m not used to non-people images so I checked out the various challenges around to see what inspiration I could find.  Sweet Stampin’ had a beautiful photo up and it was just what I needed to direct my search for the perfect paper and embellies.  I’ve taken the soft lavender colours from the photo as my inspiration, including Smooching my butterfly embellies to soften up their colour.

I’ve also played along with the bingo card at Fussy and Fancy, as I had lace and a flower image I also added in some Fran-tage around my image to get my three in a row.  To help add interest to the card I’ve also made it a gate fold with the image the ‘latch’ or overlapping part.  As it a gate fold I’m also entering my card in the current challenge at Vandicrafts’ Artistry.

Hope to see you playing along over at the Outlawz for this week’s sketch challenge.

Pieces of eight

The fun SBS Fan Page images this month were pirate wenches and Canon Pirate Betty was too cute not to colour up.

Now while this follows the challenge requirement to include a skull I’ve actually made this up as a get well card for one of my SBS DT teamie’s mother.  Arr, ye heard me right me hearties, this is a get well card.  Just look inside…

Just hoping Mrs Green has as keen a sense of fun as her daughter Tanja!  Now to make up the card I’ve followed a sketch from my favourite sketch challenge over at Outlawz, it worked perfectly for a pirate theme.  It also allowed me to pile on the layers, I just love layers, the weight of a handmade card is part of the charm for me.  And with all these layers I’m entering this in the current challenge at Sweet Stampin’.

The sketch had a bow but I swapped that out for my pieces of eight gold coin, I secured that down tight with a brad as I didn’t want to offend Mrs Green with the engraving on the back of the coin.  Not sure why it says what it says but I liked the front and this way no one is any the wiser for what’s on the back.  The current challenge at Stempelsonnen requires brands or eyelets so I am linking this up there.

I also thought the Baker’s Twine suited the theme, kinda rope like, and the burlap ribbon also worked in well as an old fashioned sailing ship would have had lots of sacks stowed below deck.  Burlap is also the current theme over at Brown Sugar so I’m also entering this there.

Be not sick too late, nor well too soon

I have the honour of being a guest DT  at Through the Purple Haze challenge this month and today is my first post for this week’s anything goes challenge featuring an image from the sponsor Lacy Sunshine’s Sadie.

Now did you think that I didn’t colour up Sadie?  Surely not, for that wouldn’t have been much fun and this is definitely a fun card.  All it takes is to pull gently on the handle on the top to give Sadie back her colour.

Pretty clever, isn’t it?

I followed a tutorial from Keren of Altered Ego; Keren has been kind enough to post up tutorials and patterns for a range of fab card designs.  Go check out her blog and her great take on this secret slider card.

To make up my card I took some inspiration from Die Cut Diva’s where they have an inspirational photo posted as their challenge theme.  Being an Aussie myself the colours of the rosellas and bush were very familiar and worked well for a get well card.

I’ve used my favourite embellies, flowers, to make up my card.  Lovely sunny coloured ones to help brighten someone’s day who is feeling, well, off colour.  With my flowers I am entering my card in the current challenges at Allsorts and Sweet Stampin’ (got the stamp part covered too).

Hopefully my card has inspired you to try something a bit different, even if it is just a different type of card like mine.  If so, why not join in the fun over at Through the Purple Haze.  The current challenge will run for a week and, as always, there are some lovely prizes on offer.

Merry ChristCAS

So I’ve left my cards to the eleventh hour and needed to make a stack for colleagues.  The answer was to keep it CAS so I raided my rubber stamps and found this gorgeous one from The Greeting Farm called  A Cheeky Christmas.

I’ve stamped her with clear embossing ink and then used Fran-tage embossing enamel to add some interest.  I toyed with adding a sentiment to the front but liked the simplicity of just the image so instead I printed a sentiment for the inside and added some more Fran-tage for a border.

Now the current challenge at The Greeting Farm is ‘Christmas wish’ and I really wish I’d started my Christmas cards before 21 December or else that someone would make them for me!  Not sure if that’s what the theme was really about but it’s my Christmas wish, given I was so late last year I didn’t make or send any cards at all!  The current challenge at Sweet Stampin’ is white and one other colour, which I qualify for (well, sort of, I have two if you count the inside) so I’m also entering this card there.
